...Maybe this is O/T but as it concerned 'e-cigarettes' I've put it here....

Been trawling thru' Insurance 'offers' for cover on My van (2 days it's taken!! ...& no, I won't go off on one Re. wot a bunch of dishonest, incompetent chancers They all are!! ...)
& finally got one lot to deign to cover Me without having to re-mortgage:- Had to go thru' ALL the same details again after accepting Their quote & then got asked: 'Do You, or anyone else in Your family (..I'm the only driver!!..) smoke? (pause) including e-cigarettes.'
What?!...toyed with telling Them that My mixes are light on the VG so I would n't be fogging up the windscreen but did n't want to lose the 'deal'!
Has a prescedent been set somewhere by someone driving around 'Cheech & Chong-style'
not being able to see thru' the clouds?
I have n't had to change ins. for over 8yrs so maybe this is the norm now?...

yourgurnard - I can only guess they asked about "smoking" as the van might be considered "a place of work" (where "smoking" is banned?)

I see many a van driver vaping everyday - more power to them

That popped straight into my head too.

If my insurer asked about smoking, I'd tell them no and leave it at that.

If they asked about e-cigarettes, I'd probably still say no. It's not like you can be breathalyzed for Lemon Coconut Custard Cake flavor.

I am not surprised that you were asked about e-cigs.
The majority of Vapers that I know that drive, keep their e-cigs on the dash or a pocket in that vicinity.
When their driving they have to fumble for their e-cig and then try to replace it when they put it down.
It is a distraction that I am not surprised that the insurance companies are clamping down on.

Personally I have a lanyard for my ecig so it is always there and always handy. If I'm vaping and want to put both hands on the wheel, I can simply drop the e-cig and it "falls" about 4 inches, back onto my chest ready for the next bit of clear road where I can have a few more sooks.

We seem to be hell bent on in supposing that anything against the use of e-cigs must be connected with rules or advice against smoking when in fact there may be different reason why e-cigs and their use in certain circumstances may be frowned upon.

I don't disagree, but where do you draw the line?

Are people now expected to declare if they ever took a swig of a drink or a bite of a choccy bar.
or indeed... press some buttons on the sat nav or change a CD.

These are matters for the police in the event of something happening. Presumably, they could 'do' someone for smoking or eating a banana if they wanted to or felt it was appropriate.

I wonder how many accidents are caused by involuntary sneezing which causes you to shut your eyes. Perhaps the insurance company's will start asking questions about your snuff taking habits. I think they are looking for any way to avoid paying out.
