Just bought some 'Londoner' & 'Sultan' concentrates, with 'Best Cigar' & 'Old Holborn' already in the drawer. Why do they all taste pretty much the same?.... & what is the taste?.... Had this before when I got 4 'different' Triphammer 'baccies. It's not that I dislike the taste it's just that I would've preferred to have 8 different ones!!! When I steep 'baccy Myself, each different leaf/blend/type is pretty distinctive.....& none taste like the BCL ones! Guessing that Their range uses a commercial tobacco absolute & other flavours are added to 'tweak' each different name.....this is a guess tho'! Any other guesses?.......

yourgurnard - I'm not sure this helps, but I have been vaping Brownstone, Old Captain and Captain Jack for a while and I think they are very, very similar. Tobacco with almost like a honey sweetness to them (appreciate different from the OH, Drum etc clones). I've found this with the premixed and the concentrates. I've got another basket full of concentrates but am still "Will I, won't I" through concern of them tasting "very similar" (albeit very nice!) I've got the RY444 steeping at the moment. I really want to try Space Shark and Bonfire but just think they will be "same again"....

I vape Royal Tobacco flavour all the time and the only times I deviate from that is when I'm away in the caravan during the summer. So when I get home and back to my Royal, I am very aware of the base taste of Royal which, for the first couple of draws is very distinctly a mixture of Liquorice and Caramel. This quickly returns to my smooth Royal taste which I like so much, but I wonder how many other so called tobacco flavours have Liquorice and Caramel as their base flavourings and only tweaked here and there to produce varying tastes.

I find this with BCL. I've found Londoner, Kenty and Cohibia to be very similar. There are differences, but they're subtle. I wondered if I was mixing them too weak and was tasting mostly VG...

Royal concentrate is sold by FlavourArt under their Tobacco Flavours. linkI like it because it is very similar to the Mayfair Cigarettes I used to smoke.

lobeydosser That's one thing I will say for F'Art; They may be arti-baccy but at least there's distinct differences twixt their flavours!....oh, 'cept for their 'Perique' & 'Latakia' which I can't tell apart......& taste nothing like the real thing! ghostrider1971 & domejunky so that's 4 more that have the er, 'house flavour'! (I've had the 'Old Captain' in the past too, premixed), reckon the concentrates I've got won't be added to.....& as I only lob in 5%, wot I've got will last a long while! Oh, & it ain't VG that's the flavour....I do 70% PG.

Know what you mean by having THAT taste.Londoner,Old Holborn, and Old Captain had it with me.And for some reason gave me a sore head.Recently tried Black Fire, and to me did,nt have THAT taste, and it's my new Favourite. The first 3 were all dark liquid, but the Black Fire isn't.its more Golden.

yourgurnard - I've always gone for the highly scientific "lob the whole bottle (12ml?) of concentrate in to a 100ml mix" Have you tried the Mrs Jones? (Tobacco and Espresso) - SERIOUSLY potent

Romney Interesting Re. the 'Black Fire' as I've always wondered if BCL were using some of F'Art's 'Black Fire' in da mix as both tout 'bonfire & caramel' as flavour profiles... ghostrider1971 I avoid anything to do with coffee....oh, apart from coffee filters for My NETs!

Hi goneforagasper I meant to say that I mix my Royal at 10%. I have tried other %'s but 10% came out on top for flavour.

As a long time fan of BCL I can only offer these thoughts and my own observations. First off, the vast majority of tobacco leaf is Virginia or a derivative thereof. Even those grown in South America or the Med countries. Second point to note is the difference in the tobacco is down to many things including where on the plant it was picked from to the type of soil it is grown in. The curing process varies greatly as well. This too will change the finished product. Taken all together this will affect the final outcome. Sometimes this can result in a very deep dark note, sometimes bright and crisp, others may yield a chocolate taste or something spicy. Yet they all have a common base line profile. As for the subtleties. How pronounced they are will vary wildly depending on what you vape it on. In this respect cotton is probably the worst thing to use. Good for custards and desserts, not so for tobacco.

unclegromit Agree with everything You posted above. But My point in the OP was that all of the BCL liquids that I've tried, (& forgot about 'Red USA' which is the same..) have got that same underlying base note to the taste....& it ain't the taste of Red Virginia tobacco! HoL's 'Virginia Prime' tastes pretty much the same as a home-brew NET of R/Virg. ergo, it must be authentic. I could do a 'blind' taste test of all HoL juices & prob. most of My diy steeps....ie. they don't have that same-y base to 'em. Swapping 'twixt BCL's 'Old Holborn' & 'Sultan'....I could n't tell You which was which... should n't be the case for versions of 'NETs' that purport to be a Virginia/Kentucky blend (O/H) & an Oriental/Burley (Sultan)..... & No....I don't wanna bring in the taste of cotton into the equation as well!!! (+ all the re-wicking & prob. increasing of flavour % too.....)
