I hope I can post my question on this board, as I'm sure there is an answer somewhere on this forum. Please forgive me that my search for the answer became a bit overwhelming because I'm not sure where to start. So if someone can point me to the right thread, I would be most appreciative.
I started out vaping with one brand of e-cig and one or two brands of e-liquid, which worked well. I started to add different liquids for variety, my favourites changed or became discontinued, so I found others. When I noticed my batteries wore down a bit, I invested in another brand of battery that was a little less expensive and provided fun battery colours! Then of course, I had to get new clearomisers to work with the batteries. I noticed I could mix and match a bit, and all was fine.
I've recently had a problem - well, more off-and-on for a good while now. And though I'm not too new to vaping, I don't quite know the terminology and haven't really got to fully understand how e-cigs work. I think it's time I learn!
I've heard the phrase "dry hit" and "burning taste", and that might be what it is. I recently invested in brand-new clearomisers to try to remedy the problem, and I've been frustrated that I cannot get them to work either! A couple have worked, but most of them - not at all. The problem is obviously that the liquid is not burning properly, and I don't know how else to explain it.
I know there are differences in PG vs VG, and I now understand the basics of the liquids. I think the liquids I use are mostly 50/50, but I'm sure some are 30/70... I haven't really paid attention, and most of my bottles are not marked.
I have tried a couple things, like of course letting the liquid seep into a new clearomiser for at least 10 minutes, if not a day. I also saw a tip on YouTube to take a pin and pierce into the wick area of the atomiser to loosen it up a bit, which didn't work. I also saw something about the centre pin to ensure there is a complete connection, and I can't quite locate both pins when I take apart the clearomiser. And unfortunately, I've tried so many brands, they all look different now!
The clearomisers I use are both wicked and those with replaceable coils. My favourite battery now is the EGO II 2200 m/Ah, but I have lots of 650m/Ah by EGO and Socialites, and a couple of 1000m/Ah Kanger EVOD EGO.
Thanks in advance for reading and for your help, and sorry for my lack of knowledge and terminology!

Hello Alexia, and welcome aboard. Which particular clearomiser are you using will definitely help in diagnosing your troubles.

Clearos technology has moved on a lot but I'm guessing you're using something fairly basic. I don't laugh at basic (99p ones from home bargains still get used around here) but not everything is created equally. For every design there are good uns and less good. Sadly some of the brands (Kik, VIP, Socialites) just sell any old clone tat and take the peas with the prices too. I still think genuine Kanger is good and the authentic coils. This stuff is cheap too if you know where to shop. 50/50 is a good ratio. Higher VG might need more modern designs. The Aspire Mini Nautilus still takes some beating but works best on a fat 'mod' battery imo.

Hi Alexia and we do really need to know what clearomiser you are using and what type and rating of coil i.e. 1.8 or 1.5 or 0.5 it should tell you this on the box they came in, some types of coil won't work terribly well with low power batteries and similarity some eliquds perform better/taste nice with different types of coils. If you could give us an example we can better help you.

Thanks, all! I think my clearomisers are rather basic. I'm currently juggling with these: Atomizer 2.0ML GS H2 WicklessGS eGo 2 H2S ClearomizerThen I went back to the ones with the wick because I thought they might be more reliable: 88Vape CE4 ClearomizerAnd I've still got a modest collection of these: Socialites A3 Clearomizer

Hi Alexia welcome to AAEC. I'll leave your thread 'til you digest other posts, but you will find the amount of choice a little overwhelming. I would suggest sticking with MTL (Mouth To Lung) devices, no need to "sub oHm" as you've been Vaping a while I guess you know how you like to Vape at the moment. It is possible to find simple, reasonably inexpensive equipment, that will exceed most of what you have tried before. There will be a lot of terms and things that don't seem to make sense, but don't worry! We all started at some point and don't be afraid to ask questions, honestly, don't hesitate as there is a LOT of knowledgeable folk on here!

You are already more proficient than me at uploading images !! Any chance you might give a simple, button by button description of how you do it?

Ha ha, the coding on this board is a little different to boards I've posted pictures on in the past, but it works! I had to re-size my images because they came out too big at first. Happy to show you how, KeepItGoin!

Cheers Alexia! I might take you up on that as I don't know what "resize" means in image terms! To Tag someone in a Post: look in the icons above the Reply box, tap the icon with @ symbol, a box will appear, type the first few letters of the member you want to tag and it'll insert it in the reply and notify the person you "tag"

Alexia - The clearomisers in your picture look like they use a silica wick which will probably struggle with liquids with a high VG content. VG heavy liquids tend to be thicker or gloopier and the silica wick may struggle to soak up the liquid enough to keep up when you are vaping hence the dry burning taste you seem to be getting. Its possible to add a touch of distilled water (or vodka) to your liquids to thin them down a bit and this may help. Maybe others on here that use silica wicks might have more helpful advice on what they can handle

That's great advice, thank you charliehorse ! Of course I hadn't heard of using vodka or distilled water to dilute. I think you're right in that the liquids that aren't working are a bit too gloopy for the specific clearomisers I'm using. I will try that. (And thank you keepitgoin for letting me know how to tag members in a post.)
