I sent a 0.05 kg small packet first class signed for last week and it was £2.35. A 0.047 kg packet by the same method this week was £3.65. Not nice, very not nice.

The problem now is that the price for posting is 0 - 750grams,so lets say 1 bottle of juice is 50 grams and we send 1st class £2.60 2nd class £2.10,for the same postage costs we can send 15 bottles,i sell a lot of safety glasses on ebay and was getting away with posting as large letter 78p,now £2.10

It gives me great pleasure to think how much my 10 year old second class stamps have appreciated.. I vote for a e-juice tap with a meter and monthly bills to pay for it..

There's just two words for it Rip Off > You say that, but think about what you get for that 60p. It also doesn't help that the government treats RM like a public company when it's privatised. For instance a few years back they introduced Downstream Access. Other companies pay Royal Mail a fixed price to deliver their mail. A price fixed by Postcomm (gov reg body), a price that means they can undercut Royal Mail when competing for contracts to deliver bulk mailings. So Royal Mail get paid a pittance to deliver mail for other companies through their system. Which is a bit of a piss take really. To give an idea of how much business is being taken from RM, from 07-08 to 08-09, Downstream Access mail increased from ~4,000 million items to ~5,500 million items (~30%+). This is now by far the biggest proportion of mail delivered by RM through a single service (20,000 million items in total over 10 major product groups). Obviously this isn't new mail magically appearing, mail is on the decline. This was mail that would previously have been posted through RM's own business services, which each saw decreases in volume of 20%+ (2,500 million less items sent). I.E 2,500 million items lost, of which 1,500 million were poached by rivals. Had the 1,500m items been sent through RMs own services, they would have been profitable. From the 5,500 million DSA items, RM took revenue of £766m representing a £70m loss. Sent through their own services, this would have been an approx. profit of the same amount, which would have left the 08-09 accounts for the major letters product groups at +£50m rather than -£92m. So the price of stamps going up is to be expected. That said, it's still bloody good value for money. I know I'd rather post a letter for 60p than hand deliver it 6 miles away via bike/car.

The increase all at once is the killer I think Sam . . . had it been a more gradual one, then maybe it wouldn't have been such a choker.

Agreed HV . . . if it won't go Large Letter, then it's a bit of a hike up from the old rate. It's actually better value to buy more now.
