Halogens are shit. We have 6 of the buggers and they are always blowing. Should change to led's but that would mean changing the fitting so not got around to it. Changed all our kitchen under cabinet lights to led bulbs and not had one blow in 2 years.

I've mostly managed to avoid these . my rant is that ceiling height (and age) no longer lets me change a bulb of any sort...grrrrrrrrrrr. It's a bit embarrassing to have to get a neighbour to do it for me when i could happily wire a new socket for him as I can reach a foot of the floor without climbing. * think Munchkin folks

I'm not a fan of halogen... Can't see a thing!! I like a bright light. What's wrong with a good old fashioned light bulb?? I stocked up on 100w bulbs, have tonnes in the cupboard π‘ππ‘π What's wrong with them is the cost to run them. The latest Leds are just as bright at a much lower wattage and therefore running costs. A typical 60w filament lamp can be replaced with a 6W led and the same light output achieved at a tenth of the running cost

Sounds like your mums bought old tech as they were poor when they first came out Oh and I'm a fair bit further north than you.

It's the blind leading the blind lol Although I'm sitting in my house with sunglasses on, eyes have become all light sensitive recently, maybe I should pop round when no one is in and steal them π

Maybe she got the darker softer ones. Quite right. Same as for those compact fluorescent "globes" aimed at replacing regular incandescent bulbs. They come in a range of "temperatures" which reflect how "white" or bright they are. "Warm white", "Cool white" and so on....... In reality, here, I think "warm" = dull/dark (the advertisers say "a warm ambience") whilst "cool white" = can see what you are doing. * Are regular incandescent globes still available there? Our Government banned them here several years ago in the interests of energy/power savings. We have to buy far more expensive Compact Fluorescent or LED replacement globes.

I only use 6500+ Kelvin, 23 Watt in rooms that matter and outside. That orangy nonsense simply doesn't do it for me. When I turn the light on I do this to see things, not to guess. They're difficult to get in the UK for some weird reason but I'm willing to go far and wide. There is one other house with similar lights here in the street, the rest is all dark orange
