That's good to know car147. I have 2 litres waiting for me at work which belongs to my daughter so will have to check them on Monday.

Mmmm just been wondering where we stand with nic from darkstar if we buy say the 4x500ml freezer pack then when we get round to eventually using the nic say in a year or so we find it's bad ( could it have been bad to start with ) so I'm thinking should we open all the nic soon as it comes to give it a smell or would darkstar say you opening it as shortend it's shelf life.

It's a hard one ain't it. I doubt they would reimburse after one year as I haven't seen a written guarantee. Perhaps opening it for a quick test upon receiving it would be the only way. I can't see by briefly opening it that it would cause major problems tbh, but the clever people here might know different. Hopefully not as I've decanted quite a bit into 100ml bottles

Long time storage is always going to be problematic for nic if when eventually you open it only to find out it's gone off but I can see that it's just going to be one of the gambles we have to sodding take I expect.

If in doubt now is the time to check I doubt it would be legal for them to replace it after May, don't open cold bottles or you will get condensation in them, let them get to room temp.

It's a hard one ain't it. ... I can't see by briefly opening it that it would cause major problems tbh, but the clever people here might know different. ... I cannot comment about Darkstar stuff, but do make observation about Nude Nic (from the states) specifically their "Nude Armor Nicotine Base – EXTENDED SHELF LIFE" product. (I'll not link since they are out of the EU - but Google knows about 'em - and I think they supply EU compliant 72 mg/ml base) The Nude Armor product is packaged where the little free air at the top of the bottle is removed and replaced with inert Argon gas. The theory is no oxygen in the bottle equals less chance of the nic oxidizing in storage. That is one product where opening and decanting into other bottles would potentially hurt the long term life of the product since you'd allowed the Argon to escape and replaced it with normal air (including oxygen) in the decanting process. HOWEVER, unless Darkstar does similar when packing (and one would assume they'd advertise it if they did) *shrug* I donno. Similar thing with, say, part used paint cans. After first use you replace the lid ... and after a while the fresh air in the top of the tin starts to do it's thing with the paint and it "skims over" - which is how Paint oxidizes: it cures/sets/drys. There is a product called Bloxgen ( linky) that can be used to replace that top air layer in the paint can with Argon to maximise shelf life after first opening. I've never used it but I've seen some reports that it works well. Which, of course, makes me wonder.....

I can only pass comment based on my own experience of nic base storage . . . . the vast majority of which I've decanted into amber glass on receipt, filled with as little ' air space ' as possible - then popped in the freezer. Some of my stuff is 6 years old now, which I'm using currently - it appears not to have deteriorated either in colour or smell, strength wise couldn't say. It's good enough for me and the select few I mix for that I do know.

I stocked up over a yr or so and I did decant all of it, giving it a good sniff test before doing so, I had a couple of stronger smelling bottles but it was chemical smell rather than an off smell, I've just niffed a bottle of VG based in my fridge and it does have a slightly stronger ashtray smell now but it's been opened & used a fair few times, colour is the same as when it arrived.

I've had an issue with a 500ml bottle batch PG72066. DS have agreed to take it back and cover postage costs so I'm happy that they are dealing with it.
It seems it's not a batch specific issue but may be due to some storage issue. Mine was delivered lat week and you could really smell it was odd when you took the lid off.
If anyone has any issues I'd encourage you to email them.
