I bought a SMOK Alien and the flavours, clouds etc are nice but because the mg of nicotine are so low I still have to revert to my "cheap" 30w istick & kanger top which delivers 18mg. This seems to satisfy my cravings for a cigarette
So is the SMOK and these type of mod more for vaping connoisseurs?

Why not use higher nic for yor smok? What sort of strength? I've been told 18 mg would be brutal & the SMOK seems too powerful to deliver 18mg, a lot of juices are only available up to 6mg when I look online Also the coils don't last long & they're expensive. In all honesty I now mainly use the istick and the SMOK is more of an ornament, even though I only got it 2 weeks ago, I can't be bothered with the external chargers, batteries etc. I should have bought a Pico or something, as big clouds etc don't really interest me, I just want to use it to stay off the ciggies.

Stick the smok up in the for trade section then see if someone has something more suited to your style of vape they can swap. When i started sub ohm DL vaping i dropped instantly from 18mg to 6mg and would still get the occasional headspin from too much nic but if it's not working for you then i would stick with what does. Edit: Just saw you already have

I want something small & simple, I feel this is more suited to someone who vapes as a hobby as opposed to someone like me haha

I treat vaping as both heisenberg8, first and most importantly, it keeps me away from traditional tobacco products and has become a bit of a hobby. Like a lot of the members here, I have tanks for sub ohm and mouth to lung, keeps the options open for whatever you fancy at any particular time. The more powerful mods are generally used for sub ohm vaping, but nothing to stop you putting whatever you like on top of a powerful mod and adjusting the wattage to suit. Get Off My Cloud has suggested upping your nic level in the Smok for sub ohming, good advice from an experienced member. A little trial and error required at this vaping game now and again as it's not a one size fits all activity. Bonus being, at least you have something that you can go back to in the meantime to keep you off the cigs. Don't give up on it just yet but if you do decide the Smok is wasted on you, stick it up in the for sale or trade department here, at least you'll get a return of some description on it. Hang on in there and good luck in your vaping journey.

Unfortunately heisenberg8 doesn't meet the criteria as yet for using our For Trade Board Get Off My Cloud and striker42 . I'd suggest getting a MTL tank of some description and using that with a higher strength eliquid on the device for the time being, I've certainly had more ' conversion ' successes taking smokers down the non subohm route initially. But everyone is different.

Ah, sorry about that Perpetua. Forgot about the minimum post rule. Personally, it could be blessing, heisenberg8 is possibly being a touch hasty in trying to off load it.

But everyone is different. That would be my suggestion too. I think it is more than just the nic ratio, the whole "feel" of a MTL is quite different to many of the modern style airy DTL tanks. Some people make the adjustment from tight draw cigarettes to airy DTL vaping very easily. Others, like me, not so much. But as you say Perpetua, everyone is different. And that's why it is often necessary for those new to vaping to try a few different styles of gear before settling on what works best for them.

Having read the OP again DaveJ, I'm inclined to think that it is more a tank problem than the mod itself. Again I'm going on the principle that the TFV8 baby beast is supplied with this kit and that was the tank being used. A tank that I personally never liked.

I am enjoying your post(s) regardless of the arguments for and against Sub-ohm. I don't quite see the difference between a Smok (whatever you bought) and a Pico. They are the same thing, just not the intended power of the tank on the top. You aren't going to escape chargers and batteries owning one vs. the other. Vape in the way that suits you - stay off those fags. I sometimes use a 200w box mod to vape 8w-14w tootle puffer tanks and even once tried a cartomizer on it. With respect, don't consign it to 'ornament' status... I promise you, sometime along the line you will be pleased to own such a mod for the battery life and versatility. Incidentally, the Pico kit has a Sub-ohm tank. I own a Pico, but have no interest in that tank. I also have no interest in any tank made by Smok either. Vape on! Vape your way. Take the kit you own and use it to your style. Nothing is wasted in the long run.

agree with all the above - the device is fine, just put a different tank on it... heisenberg8 which kanger tanks are you using and like? best/easiest is get a couple more of them and use them on all your devices. That's what I do, protanks/aerotanks on everything, and I use from 20w isticks to 35w boxes to 50w boxes to a 75w pico, just set the device down to the usual 7-10 watts and away you go
