Hi guys, So I've been one of those god-awful social smokers for about 12 years now. Had a phase whilst working in retail management where I stepped up into a chain smoker, but for the most part I smoke on two occasions. When stressed and when with pint. My dad had a heart attack about a year or so ago, and the docs (shockingly to me at least) stated he could continue as much as he liked with the bacon sarnie's, but the smoking had to go. I'm an absolute wimp when it comes to all things medical and the thought of a heart attack scares the life out of me. But I just can't seem to shake the occasional cigarette. I need to do something about it, and a friend swears by vaping. So hey, I thought I'd give it a go! If it keeps me a few years further away from heart failure then it can't be all bad I'd ideally like to stay away from nicotine, I don't think I've ever been addicted to anything other than the habit of smoking. I go for weeks without having a cigarette and don't notice it. I'm willing to spend more money on something that is better health-wise. Any advice on what I want to be looking for? I have literally no idea where to start. I've tried researching it but there's so much conflicting information that I just can't figure it out. All advice would be massively welcomed Cheers! Alex

Hi and welcome alex89 . I recommend going to a vape shop near you and have a try, most shops will have testers for you to try different flavours and strengths, it does not mean you have to buy from them but it will give you a good idea.

Welcome alex89I've got to say, beware the slippery slope. If you have no addiction to cigarettes, don't start vaping. Some of us have spent 4,5,6 years dropping down to 'near-as-dammit' no nicotine but the habit of puffing just won't go away. Quit while you're ahead. If you don't need to smoke, give it a miss. Or, just buy a Joyetech eGo AIO and get on with it.

alex89The e-liquid used in vaporisers comes in all sorts of strengths (and amazing flavour options!) from zero nicotine up. How many cigarettes would you typically smoke, when having a pint or being stressed?

Well the good news for you is you can buy or even make your own eliquid with no nicotine at all in it, something you certainly can't do with any cigarettes all cigarettes contain nicotine. There are principally two "styles" of vaping mouth to lung often abbreviated to MTL or direct lung often abbreviated to DL.
MTL is more similar to smoking in that the vaper draws on the device into their mouth and then takes an intake of breath which draws the vapour into the lungs, this style is achieved by restricting the amount of air flowing through the atomiser leading to a tighter draw.
DL is a different style where the vaper draws the vapour directly into the lung straight from the device, the atomiser has less restriction of air flowing through it allowing the user to directly draw the vapour into the lungs.
Some people prefer MTL others DL that's something you're just going to have to discover for yourself it's a personal choice.
As far as equipment goes in the simplest terms you have two components, the power source(mod) and the atomiser. Most mods have a universal fitting called a 510 fitting so you can use various different types of atomiser on the same power source. So if you did for example buy a kit with a MTL atomiser and found it wasn't suited to you then you can replace the atomiser for a DL one and use the same power source.

Hi Alex I've just switched to vaping. I was a heavy smoker but cut down quite a bit, only smoking in breaks at work, but felt I had to cut them out all together. I would chain a couple quite often to give me my nicotine fix.
I had tried giving up a number of times but failed every time, although the smoking ban in pubs helped a little. I've been vaping a week now, after having no confidence with it.
I've ended up buying 2 kits so I had one as a backup, as I didn't want to be in a situation where I felt I would need to buy a pack of cigarettes. But so far so good, I haven't craved for a cigarette
I also bought spare coils, and if I've made any mistakes in my purchases, it was buying 3 or 4 bottles of tobacco flavoured liquids also in same 18mg. I didn't expect to get the same fix from fruit flavours but the strawberry I've loaded up with at the moment is actually quite pleasant. I'm even keen to drop to a 12mg now, but before I spend any more I'll use up what I've got.
