Methods... Best method is to hand it to someone who can "feel" what is happening if possible. Then when they have it unstuck hopefully they can fix the thread. Got a nice local Garage shop? 20 second fix for them.

Isn't there any way to freeze one side and heat up the other? Ice cube in a plastic bag fastened on with tape? Something metal heated over a flame and then applied to the other bit? Just thinking what I would try.

Lol Scylla, not my straight thinking, but a neighbour's Kath, that also sounds like a good idea to me as well

Lyn, I didn't realise we were talking about the original model, can you tell me what number you have? There was a difference in the top cap in the first production run to the second production run.
There are two different sides to the telescopic tube - one with more threads than the other (see pic)
The second run of GGTS (I suspect yours was from this) had less threading on the top caps and if you have your telescope tube a certain way around, it actually comes off the threads up in the cap and I think this is what might have happened, then it's got wedged.
If the side of the TS tube that is not stuck is the side with more threads, then I can almost guarantee that this is what has happened.
So, what can you do? Well, if it's wedged, not actually mis-threaded, you need to tap it sharply to straighten it up in there, and then "find" the thread again to thread it back out.
Does that make sense?
