I refuse to be held to ransom so them pics will not be restored and the account closed. I'd doubt that there's anyone who feels differently Blakey . . . . .

Having read this, and other, threads about Photobucket, I will this morning hopefully reclaim my photos from them, and will then promptly close down my account. This is NOT the way to make friends and influence people these days (or indeed any days!). Will be checking out some of the options offered above to save my photos in future.

blakey - just noticed this part of your last post: Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. You can upgrade to a Plus account at any time. Hello Toots, I have at least one photobucket account. I rarely use my main one among them. I don't pay anything, I use about 1% of the capacity. I used my main photobucket account last July 11 because my regular free image hosting site (postimage.io) couldn't download a heavier animated gif. I dislike photobucket because I find it slower, less handy. But photobucket looks like a solid and long-lasted structure so I understand that expected reliability is worth much for other people. Anyway: I got the link related to the animated gif through photobucket then I posted it in a forum. It's still showing up: After that screenprint, I downloaded a new picture on photobucket (without paying anything). Nothing blocked me in the process. However it took several minutes to see the newly downloaded picture in the library. Here it is: So my main photobucket account seems to keep on working well - for free -. I don't know how long it will last. I have no "vital" pictures in that account. But sure it's good to know an alternative may be necessary for some of us.

My guess is that that photobucket is starting with suspending members that have the most views of linked pics.

My guess is that that photobucket is starting with suspending members that have the most views of linked pics. @anton & Chrissie, I had that spray paint animated gif under the banner at the bottom of my posts, which could have had a fair number of views yeah. It was only due to that stopping working that I looked into what was going on at photobucket. I noticed also that some of the forum's personal smileys and my own choice ones went missing/were replaced with a message saying "please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting" in a grey box like this:
