FWIW...my OH is a member of IEEE & is also an electronic engineer Consultant... He's looked over this thread & confirms VapingBad is correct & spot on with his information ( but you know that Jon ) I'm not trying to poke my nose in...but I feel Jon must get so frustrated trying to constantly educate us. We really appreciate your vast knowledge Jon

I just wish I had the brains to understand it all but if VapingBad tells me it's safe then I feel I trust that. It's great to see it thrashed out though in an orderly manner 👍

Wow really set the fox loose in the hen house PEACE brothers!!! I only wanted a saboteur ohm coil not a war Don't worry about it I will point out this stuff as it impacts on safety and using the wrong maths is far worse than not using any, so fell I have no option. Don't worry about the ohms over much just be between the min and max your mod supports. As someone that, try as I may, still doesn't fully understand all the terminology used in some of the posts on this thread, I tend to follow the advice offered by VapingBad for a regulated device. With a mech device, you pays your money and takes your chance.

Thanks for the kind words, but don't be hard on jevans as there are a lot of people convinced of the same thing and he was just brave enough to stick up for his understanding of it. It is the vape celebs that repeat this misinfo that should be blamed if anyone, we are not born understanding electronics, ignorance is the natural state of affairs and if people you trust tell you the wrong thing it is nothing to be ashamed of if you believe it.

Wow really set the fox loose in the hen house PEACE brothers!!! I only wanted a above ohm coil not a war Don't worry, this is an extremely useful thread (even if I'm not quite following all of it) I am getting some of the discussion and am finding it educational. That's whats good about Forums, you get to (try) to understand stuff and see how it gets explained. I like this Forum for that!

To be honest I was in agreement with jevans , always the way I've looked at vaping with mech mods. Am I right after reading your links that what your saying mainly applies to vw and vv mods VapingBad ? Think I've got my head round the fact that they act between the battery and coil allowing you to vary the wattage and voltage outside of ohms law? Learnt a lot but still a little confused. Will read more on this

VapingBadI still maintain that for a pure resistive load, Watts are dependant on the amps no matter what magic box you have between the battery and the coil. I agree that some strange things happen within the box, but surley if you increase the ohms, the load on the battery is reduced for the same wattage? Jim

I agree that some strange things happen within the box, but surley if you increase the ohms, the load on the battery is reduced for the same wattage? Jim There is not a single R in the circuit, the converter and plenty of other passive components (resistors, capacitors and inductors) are now involved in the circuit so it is a far more complex set of equations than I = V/R. Current is different each side of the converter like your crank-shaft and wheels turn at different rates, with different HP and torque because the energy goes through a gear box. Look at any of the DNA board specs and note the max input and output currents are quite different, EG DNA 20 = 7 A & 6 A, DNA 40 = 16 A & 23 A, DNA 200 = 23 A & 65 A respectively, go to www.evolvapor.com and download the spec sheets to confirm.

To put it another way, if you ignore the loss with efficiency for a moment and say the energy (watts) must be the same both sides of the converter (board) and volts on the battery side are determined by the battery. On the battery side volts are fixed so it is the Amps that will vary when you change the wattage or the battery voltage drops as it discharges. On the coil side the resistance is fixed so when you increase the watts the voltage has to be raised as the resistance and voltage dictate the current. The converter will control the colts on the coil side and the current on the battery side to maintain the wattage. These must all stay in balance because energy cannot be created or destroyed, just converted to another form. The Laws of Thermodynamics, Ohms Law, Joule Heating, Kirchhoff's Current Law, Maxwell's equations and all the rest guarantee this: all energy is accountable for.
