I need a small plant for the new office to sit on the round breakfast table that's in the middle. There's little light and I won't be there every day so need something hardy would be good. Just need something to soften the room. At the moment it's all filing cabinets and av kit. Magnolia walls. So some greenage would be good. I do like a bit of colour so can even some kind of flower. Any recommendations?

Are there any plants that are small and useable like chillies, coriander etc that might be suitable?

Little light = little life, cactus will be fine without much attention, people usually kill them by watering to often, they originate in very dry conditions but they do like warmth and light, though they can handle spells of cold quite well.
Nothing that blooms loads of flowers will do well as they need loads of light, if you google 'plants for shaded areas' that could find your answer as they require less light.

Orchids, the ones with the long thin leaves like the shade and don't need watering very often. Nice flowers too.

Are there any plants that are small and useable like chillies, coriander etc that might be suitable? Yes, and you could be lucky with them, but they do like light, cold you not move the table a tad closer to the window? Chilli, pepppers and most other plants like that need loads of water and feeding a couple of times a week, you could get around it by standing them in a container of water for when your not there but I think the Orchid idea by Njk is good
