Well not actually the Planes bit, but I had to go and visit the Wife who is in hospital getting a Replacement Knee installed.
To get there meant taking the car to the next village to get the Ferry over to Gourock, then a half mile walk to the Train to Paisley, then a Taxi from the station to the Hospital.
Then it all again to get back.
There are many advantages about "living out in the Sticks", but ease of access to Medical Matters ain't one of them.

Thanks for your Good Wishes.
I had both knees done about 10 years ago and was out of hospital in 5 days each time.
Mrs Lobey had her operation 9 days ago now and there is no indication of her being released any time soon.
So whilst the dog and I are having a ball eating our way through the fridge/freezer while our bottoms go numb watching telly, it is all a bit worrying, especially with the distance involved just to get to see her.

I brought Mrs Lobey home from hospital this afternoon.
So me and the dug's holiday is over and I will need to look out my Slave Suit.

When I did the Trains and Boats and Planes bit, I honestly thought that going that way would be more relaxing than driving from home to the hospital. I could sit in comfort watching the wee boats as I crossed the river and then the views from the train windows as I we journeyed up to Paisley. Instead, with all the walking I had to do between the modes of transport, it was a feckin' nightmare.
Instead, the "nightmare' of a drive I had today was really very nice and relaxing and although I had to wait in the Patient Departure Lounge for 20 minutes while they got SWMBO ready for leaving, I left the house at 2.15pm and we were back by 5.15pm.
If authorities are serious about enticing folks away from their cars and onto Public Transport, then it is high time that those same authorities tried using the dammed "transport" and realised how bloody awkward and inconvenient it actually is.

Here here! I'm in a similar situation down in Cornwall, and almost 2 miles walk from the train station. A simple trip to Truro to have a few drinks with friends turns into a major military operation. Walk 2 miles to train station, 12 minute journey to Truro, half mile walk to pub(s), leave just as things are getting going to catch last train back at 10.30pm, then a slightly weaving 2 mile walk home, visiting a few hedges for relief on the way home (I'm not getting any younger in that department!). Last week was invited to Falmouth for a similar drinks meet, but had to decline as they wanted to start at 10.00pm, and the last bus back leaves at 10.15pm!

Aye, when i was a student in falmouth the buses were a pain, especially when you're having to pay ridiculous amounts for taxis

After a prolonged stay in hospital, 10 days instead of the usual 4 days for a Knee Replacement Operation, Mrs Lobey is home now and gradually getting used to enjoying the comfort of her reclining chair, ordering me to fetch and carry all her edibles, TV Remote switches and any other luxuries she can think of.
I've never been shopping this much and if it carries on for another month or so, I can see me needing replacement knees for my replacement knees!!!!!
