OooH Doc/Hospital manager have you (or your insurance co) seen PHE recommend you don't put the vapers out with the smokers and provide them with a space?
OooH Boss have you (or your insurance co) seen PHE recommend you don't put the vapers out with the smokers?
Lots of other countries would love to have this and are glad that they can quote the principles, don't sweet the small stuff it's another important step in the right direction that will make it harder to sweep vaping under the carpet.

For me it's the things like recommending vaping areas in hospitals and work places, recommending them as a top class quit method, reiterating they > 20 times safer than smoking and calling out the "they are bad for you" BS as fake news (last time I was confidently told that was 25:30 hours ago).
Yes and yes! I've walked away from just such a conversation today . . . . . .

I just used the Beeb headline that mentioned prescriptions for the title this AM, for me that was the least interesting part of it, it was, well what I posted above: reinforcement that vaping is a net positive for humanity from a government body and the indoor vaping areas in hospitals recommendation.

Ummmm. My thoughts - as one who is very unfamiliar with your "medical system".
If I were to take that headline - the bit that says "E-Cigs should be available on script" in isolation, I'd be very concerned. As a standalone statement, it might suggest a push toward restricting Vaping to only those who have a Doc's script. Here, in some states, it is claimed that already applies - that you need a script to legally obtain Nic liquid. Other states say even that isn't allowed. One big trouble with that here is finding a Doc who'll write that script.
Besides, I'm dead against making the act of smoking itself an illness that needs medical intervention to "cure". Sure, smoking may cause illness, but that's quite a different issue. Where does that stop? Drinking alcohol? Coffee? Sugar? Fat? All of those things can ultimately cause illness too if used inappropriately.
HOWEVER, that headline was part of a number of statements/suggestions which, when taken together, indicated to me an overall thought that vaping restrictions ought be relaxed to serve the greater good. And I find that a damned wonderful comment coming from any "government authority" anywhere.
I've said it before - for the most part, around here, vaping and smoking both must be conducted OFF THE PROPERTY - on the street curb. For workplaces, places of recreation or health establishments. Even public parks, beaches and national parks are becoming smoke (including vape) free.
The only way any sense will filter through to here and those in places worse off than Aust (like some Asian countries) is if enlightened authorities such as PHE are able to follow through with their suggestions - and have England show the rest of the world that, rather than the sky falling in, there would be good to the general community as a result.
**** Oh, errr... I'll get offa my soapbox now.... *sheepish grin*

I'm not talking about the financial aspects of smoking on society, but on the individual smoker. I'm sure there will be some die hard denyers, but to me the cat is out of the bag. Smoking is bad for your health. There is a real negative to vaping from a HMRC perspective. There is a loss of around £40 million each years as the quoted 20,000 switch to vaping. As that figure is compounded that adds up to a serious loss of tax revenue which needs to be replaced from an alternative source. They probably would have liked to tax vaping, except it would not look good taxing a life saving alternative to smoking. PHE took the wind out of their sails when they announced that vaping was 95% safer. The reduction in NHS spending will reduce over time, but the fact remains that some of us long term smokers, now converted vapers will get some health related illness from the many years we smoked. So the savings to the NHS will be down the road, but the financial loss to the public purse is immediate.

Our vaping area (outside) the other day nothing unusual there unfortunately....maybe partly why the HSE have had advice on their site for a couple of years or so that vapers shouldn't be made to stand with smokers?

Shouldn't be made to go in those areas, imagine telling non nic users they have to have their coffee break there....

OMG...that is gross Mandy Believe it or not, this is actually an improvement Gill! Prior to the ash bin appearing butts littered the ground around the inadequate stubber out thing. Shouldn't be made to go in those areas, imagine telling non nic users they have to have their coffee break there.... Agreed VB! I tend to stand outside of the shelter, which strictly speaking is against the rules . . . . if anything was ever said, my response might not be too polite!
