I sometimes got dispirited when I started, too, mecnun, and am also an MTL vaper. But do persevere, believe me, it’s worth it, I would never go back to ready made coils, when I do the vape is never as good. Thinner wire will help, I suggest 28awg. Wire is very cheap if you get it from Fastech or the like so I have lots of different types, and I vape all sorts, from 0.2ohm to 1.5ohm, depending on the mod and atty I’m using, MTL does not have to be any specific OHM. In my early vaping daysI settled on around .75ohm, as I’d read somewhere that this was optimum for the mod I was using. Differences in ohms between Steam, ohm meters and mods are not that uncommon, let the vape inform what you like, rather than Ohms, Watts, voltage or anything else, (except ohms and amps do matter safety wise if you are using a mechanical mod!)

I found that my higher gauge wires 26-28 kantal work far better in the small changer of a RTA,
When it comes to wicking, some of the best tutorials are watching the build part of a Grim Green or DJLSV RTA review, but in short , get as much cotton as you can get in the coil without deforming it, and then a generous combing /fluffing so that it dosent obstruct the juice channels. Thats my 2 cents worth on this

I have been using 28 kanthal wire with 5 wraps at 2.5mm which comes out at around the 1 ohm mark every time (maybe sometimes 0.9 or 1.1 ohms), been doing this for years with no problem. I only vape at 16.5 watts as well on a little pico 75 mod. I'm looking for a bit more flavour these days so I'm about to experiment with new bigger mods & tanks and thicker wire at lower ohms and higher wattage when my new toys arrive from FT and due to the fact that I am not a MTL vaper anymore. However for you, the above comment might help you if you want to try that out later should you continue having problems with what you are currently using. Good luck mecnun
