Netflix, Amazon Prime or Alternatives

Hi All

Been a while since i posted, must be happy with my setup and juices

Long story short

We've recently purchased a 65'' inch 4k tv and an all singing surround sound soundbar. Pleased with both.

We have Sky Q, all channels except movies.

Don't watch movies all that often and have never seen a boxset.

Own quite a few DVDs, but they are now a bit rubbish to watch with the tv or DVD player trying to upscale to 4k.

Not really interested in buying BluRays or UHD BluRays.

Decided that to get the best out of the setup we need to go down one of the streaming routes.

We have 30mb fibre, so not a bad speed.

The tv has links to both Netflix and Prime and just wondered what folk's views are of the providers or alternatives.

Any help much appreciated.

Both Netflix and Amazon offer a free trial for new members. Audition both and see what fits better.

If you buy often from Amazon, then Prime may be a great option for you.

My wife and I like movies and TV series and have both Netflix and Prime services, we can usually find something to watch, but not always.

Mind, both networks are heavily producing their own exclusive, original content now.
Some of it is great, some is horrible, most are average at best.
But they don't share, you may get some overlap with blockbuster movies and "classic" television shows, but the exclusive content remains exclusive.

I am presuming you have the 2tb sky Q as you say you have the netflix app and needed to get 4k content
A lot of the boxsets are in 4k ok you say you don't really watch them or movies,
but i was the same but now do use them a lot.
With netflix you need the top package to get 4k stuff i find netflix good for films and again
most programs on there are in boxset format.
For us they both work well together
Not used amazon so can't comment on that.

Ah ok then i can not really offer much advice as i run all of mine through the sky Q box 
All i can say is netflix i find quite a good site apart from as said most things are the full box sets but obviously you can view them 
one at the time, You don't need to download them all at once so you can pop in and out of a series as and when it suits you.
Also as said above i would go for the free trial on both amazon and netflix and see what suits your needs best mate.

IIRC the tax (license) is for having equipment capable of receiving a TV signal regardless of usage

Nah it also includes watching stuff on the BBCs iplayer if i read the bumpf right.

I have 2 TVs I use as PC monotors (I dont watch any TV chanels) so if they think im paying for a license they can kiss my chuddies

Sorry to jump in but TV licence applies to all devices that can receive "any" BBC video services so any thing that connects to the internet with a display is liable plus any device with a tuner with or without a display ie: vcr. They closed all the loop holes years ago so even if you have only a smartphone at home and no other electronic device in your household you are still liable.

Oh and to answer your question you can view direct stream on TV and are able to download to view later on mobile devices on both services.

I got rid of Netflix a while back I have kept my Amazon on only because I use prime for deliveries.

Missing the point, equipment that can revive and display TV, so not a computer or phone, but a TV even if you don't connect the aerial.

Just don't admit it and you will be fine, my broth thought he would be clever and tell the licence cops yes he had a tv, but it was not used for ages and disconnected in the garage on top of the freezer, so they kicked him.

ETA maybe they changed it when they change the law for bbc iPlayer, but we are sh!t at removing outdated laws in this kingdom.
