I'm a VW MTL vaper, around 28W with twin coil RBA Velocity style deck. I'm used to basic Kanthal coils.
Is there merit in trying Clapton, alien or any other 'fancy' coils? ... or are these more appropriate for only DTL.

Cheap enough to have a go if you're curious. I've found no benefit using different wire, but others love them. I use single coil atties and have kanthal and ss wire. I consider myself lucky to be easily satisfied. Batteries last all day, and I can vape unobtrusively most places, including work.

For mtl you might find switching between kanthal and nichrome or stainless can make a difference but not huge.
I wouldn't bother with anything fancy.
I find simple fused nice but only in bigger cloudier set ups but I just stick with simple in my mtl set ups

what kind of ohms are you looking for? TBH I'm not sure.... currently vape MTL at 28W at around 0.7ohm-ish. Haven't done much experimenting... more curious!

I've a load of ready made ' fancy ' coils Dave Postmodern Smoking and could put together a little selection to send, if you wanted to give them a go.

TBH, I have loads of so called fancy coils but they make little difference to the vape with the juice that I vape in DTL. I still use and prefer round wire coils.
In MTL the fancy coils require far too much power to run properly and far more than an MTL juice should really need, mainly due to the slower ramp up time.

I have to agree with the other comments. Ive tried the fancy coils that come with some RD/RTAs and couldnt see much flavour difference to the plain round gauge. Though I do go for Ni80 for the lower ohm builds in me mech squonks.

I'm one who hasn't gone with any fancy coils either. Simple round wire did it when I first started winding coils, and I never saw any need to change ... Cannot comment if there is advantage or not with 'em though *shrug*

After many years of standard kanthal coils in a Ego One Mega tank I have recently swapped to the Plex 3d Mesh Coils on a Isub S tank and I've got to say it's amazing! Only thing is they can't be re-wicked/coiled like I do with the Ego One tanks so the cost is considerably higher

Which is probably why I haven't used any of my stash Dave!
But!! When you've an itch that needs scratching, just to satisfy that curiousity gene . . . . there'll be no harm in me sending you a few in the post. If nothing else you can admire their splendid wirey beauty if there's nothing on telly.

Loving the Plex Mesh coils myself Des . . . . they do last a fair old time though, I guess I get around 90ml of eliquid through mine before they need changing, so that offsets some of the cost. And the time saved in recoiling can be used on something else.
