Lovely stuff Jay, you will get so much pleasure watching mother hen teach these chicks to grow up, are they your first ever? We give our hens left over porridge, but they won't let the chicks eat it till they are older, then worms, she calls them to come eat the worms and 'extra specail' bits, its wonderful to watch, for the un-interested it sounds boring but to those that love this sort of thing it's fascinating Only sad thing is too many turning out to be cocks and you have to find homes if space is limited. Hope you get mainly hens

I know who to ask for advice now when I clear the rear garden (forest) I have to rehome a family of pygmies first , then my beloved insists we get some chickens and a run ..... I'd rather keep the pygmies personally at least they are self sufficient

Hey Sandra, yes these are our first ever chicks so were well excited!!! Unfortunately we had 3 (grown Hens) taken by a fox within the space of a day and a half not long ago and my wife (and me) was gutted, so these are a real bonus!!! The only down side is we used to let them have free run all of the time in the garden but now I've had to build a run (although its massive so won't be too bad) and we can only let them out fully when were at home. And your completely right, before we had them I wasn't really too interested but now i love em!!! There like full on Pets, one of them in particular sits on your knee when were out in the garden!!!
