AMD Catalyst Control Center problem

Just wondering if anyone can help with this:

CCC tells me that I'm on version 12.3 and an update to 12.6 is available, but when I run the update (which seems to work, no errors reported), CCC still says it's running 12.3 and an update to 12.6 is available.

Any ideas? I've tried googling for the problem, but the details I've found on techy forums go waaaaaay over my head.

Help much appreciated!

Uninstall your drivers with that tool then restart you computer. After that download Catalyst directly: support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Reinstall and it should be fine.

Just one (probably very stupid) question: when uninstalling grahics card drivers, what happens to your display? I've always been scared to try uninstalling anything to do with graphics cards, as I fear I'll just get a black screen or something. No doubt I'm mistaken about this, but if you could re-assure me before I attempt the above steps (like beckoning a frightened kitten out of its box in a new home) that would make me feel better.

It will revert to Windows standard driver so you display will still work but may just be at the wrong resolution until you do what I mentioned.
