The Vendor should say what model it is i.e. an Original (v1) V1.5, V2.1 The other complication is there is more than one manufacturer caaling their product a Lavatube. Ask the vendor they should tell you and/or show it on their site (if you are buying off the net).

I've also wondered about this - I think it literally is just the colour and cost of manufacturing/availability?
The other question someone may be able to answer is:
What difference is there between the standard and mini lavatube? Is it just the size or is the battery life affected as well?
Also, and it may sound daft, but is a Lavatube really worth shelling out 50 odd notes for, say compared to a Twist or a RIVA 1100?

Can you adjust the resistance on the new lavatube?

The original old Lavatubes came in black and silver. The silver was just painted on though. The newer ones have a Chrome finish and are much better quality. Worth paying the extra for the new versions.
Bel has one of each hear if you want to check out the difference first.

Can you adjust the resistance on the new lavatube? No, there is no e-cig where you can "adjust" the resistance. The resistance is a property of the atomiser/cartomiser.

There are differences in the current and some features of the Lavatubes. i.e. V1 max current 2.5A battery voltage/charge shown in digits. Knobbly (yuck) Plastic end caps, standard 510 connecter (skirted cartos need a 510 to ego adapter). takes a full size 18650 which could be over 2000 mAh capacity. V2.1 max 3.2A (which means you can run lowere resistance caros/atty's at higher voltages) battery voltage/charge shown graphically, resistance of connected cartomiser/atomiser shown. All metal, including end caps, recessed ego connector, no adapter needed. I have both the V1 in black and the V2.1 Mini which takes a 18350 battery (900 mAh) in chrome, and I love the smaller form factor and the much better finish.

I think we should have a proper head to head with an oscilloscope analysis between the Provari V2 and the new Lavatube in stock at Vapourhut under different voltages and different load conditions..
I think a few people will be surprised..

I think technically there will hardly be any difference in terms of usage for 95% of vapers..
May be with very low resistance of 1.4 ohms and less the I feel the Provari will perform better because I understand that the new LT circuitry is limited to 10 watts..
But you can never discount the power of the placebo effect..

I have both the Chrome lavatube v2 mini (2.5 amp) and a lavatube 1.5 mini (3.2 amp) and there's not much of a difference between them performance wise (The 3.2 amp one is a bit better with LR Dual coils, but thats about it)
My Vmax v3 is better than both of them though.

The twist won't go higher than 4.8 volt (Riva as far as i know start at 4.2 and then drop off as the battery drains) The twist is a good cheap alternative, but it can't compete with a lavatube.
