On the map the a5 looks pretty damn good all the way to tamworth. And straight as a dye. Just dont know that bit of road. Maybe its full of traffic lights? The m1 looks good but if there is anyone who knows that a5 and could advise id be obliged.

I wouldn't recommend the A5, you'll end up going through every town
centre (even the one horse ones) with trafficlights and roundabouts
every two hundred yards. Take the m1 to Rugby then A5 from there.
