The only downside with cotton wicks, is that they can burn quite easily unless you keep them wet . . . and depending upon what you're using, they don't always wick quickly enough.
But they're ok.
Medical gauze is also supposed to be quite a good option for wick material, although I've yet to try that.
And loose fibres in silica/fg wick, very much depends upon what wick you use . . .

Yea most of the info and stuff is useless, apart from the fact id agree with the wick part, and defo like the hypodermic needle as a end to coils is great a lot better than faffing about with bloody silver wire which ain't that cheap, thing with e cigs is because there new no one has done any long term studies on the effects of using them for ten years or more, whilst I'm sure it's better than smoking analogues, there's no real evidence to prove what long term effects could be gained from it, I know I have had a few lungs full of burnt filler, which ain't going to do any good, the lungs a very sensitive organ and having anything going in for long periods of time could have all sorts of effects, so silica and fiberglass ain't going to do any good either, and let's face it some Chinese guy ain't going to give a shit whether u have 100% lung capacity or ten in twenty years, like most things in our world it's about money, you only get one health so u have to at least try to look after it, if that means trying different materials for a safer vapor then I'm all for it:)

It is true, we should take note and take on board things like this, although at least we now have a truly brilliant summariser! Thing is though, it wasn't that long ago when they were telling us recycled cardboard in cereal boxes could cause us cancer My brother-in-laws cousin, healthy, did not smoke, or drink, lead a good normal lifestyle, didn't take drugs, rarely had a cold, then she felt a little lethargic, couldn't quite put her finger on it, went to her GP the following day, had a blood test, following week she was in hospital for a few more tests, 3 weeks later she died of cancer, riddled with it, from her brain, lungs, stomach. So within 3 weeks, after feeling tired, and a little off colour, you die! That hit me quite hard, because I've always been conscious of my various underlying health issues, and, well I don't want to make matters worse, but after finding that out, if you're going to go, you're going to go, I honestly don't think it is going to matter 'that' much when we hear these little snippets in regards to e-cigs or cardboard cereal packing. We must keep and open mind, keep an eye on things, and use just a little bit of common sense (I know this world is running out of common sense, but I think we might have enough for this).Good health to one and all, and happy Vaping!

The hypo tubing seems like a decent idea if you can keep good contact between it and the coil - the answer to the burning wick thing is too keep an eye on them, I would think. I'd rather waste a bit of juice than risk inhaling bits of fried wick, whatever it's made of. I would suspect though that testing on any inert particulates found in vapour would have been of interest to the FDA, but there's nothing, zip, nada to suggest they found anything suspicious- there's no way they'd have put down that big stick if they found it.

I have been looking into wicks for a few weeks now..Cotton fibre inhalation can also cause lung disease..I am trying to use all stainless steel wicks and get away from silica and even cotton wicks..
If you want to be really safe, don't put anything into your lungs other than air. There have been no long term studies because it hasn't been around long enough but knowledge of basic science has convinced me that vaping reduces harm from smoking considerably. I would go so far as to guesstimate about 80-90% reduction in harm.
