Yay esme, everyones routing for you. Having those joins running to far down means its a pig to tuck under. And you know the little loop you get right? I'd call it a fish eye. Be mindfull of that fish eye when you fold the non res wire back on itself. Get right ontop of it and pinch that bad boy close on that fold. My fish eye loop thingy was like 4 or 5mm alone! Keep forking those wires after every turn. And prod those twists in after every turn. So I use twist, prod the twist in to make it tight, then fork the wires again for another twist. Blakeys tutorial will show the way home. All he needs to do now is a video!

Then do the same with the other end and if there was any bulges, flatten with the tweezers. Would that work?

I would think so Esme, that's basically what I started doing with my fingers since I couldn't find my tweezers. I think after all this we were probably having the same problem. Just don't let any of that wire poke out anywhere!

Hmm whatever works for you esme, sounds like tying a fishermans knot? I dunno! But remember small, tight, and low in that gully. Tweezers, fingers, knots, whatever is easiest to accomplish that. its always dangerous trying to get a novice show people, but I would have said last week my joins were short low and tight as I could possibly get. They weren't! Short, low in that gully and tight. Thats what you need to achieve. So after youve wrapped your coil, forget about wick, leave it splaying out the sides across the top. Get abit of tension on it pulling it down as shown in A. Making sure its low in that gully. Then using what pinchers, nails, thumbs you have in the other hand pinch that mildly taught wire where it says B. That should also pinch the tightness. Then straight over the road to that nut, the wire will raise slightly here as it has to and go slightly to one side. Thats ok, but I use the word slightly. Then bang your in. Then push the wick down ontop. Apologies if I'm getting it wrong as I'm only a novice myself, but I know now the mistakes I made. Watching a pro like scott inspires confidence certainly, but then you try and coil that bad boy I know some of the mistakes you come up against. It took me ages esme! Probably in excess of 24 hours of wire pricking and coiling before I got it!

how about grabbing the ends with a strong bull nose clip and then twisting the wires together... you should be able to keep them at a nice V shape as well as nice and tight twists
wind the non resistance back down the twisted wire ....take the clip off and trim excess wire

What a great idea, certainly worth a try. I've just ordered some from Here and I'll report back when I've had a go at it

I think I've managed to do a neat join on the wires, but not going to rush this and coil until I get the spacing bit from Jason before doing that, sat there twisting and double twisting, flattened it with tweezers and have put it to one side until I get time to coil and try and set the Lady P up. Ordered some more wick from that Ebay seller in Germany on perpy's list, got notification that its on its way half an hour after ordering I may order some of those crimp tubes and pliers, may come in handy one day

It's a bit looser woven than the original wick but works fine. I didn't order the £10 crimping tool, just gonna flatten it with pliers and see how it goes

Just off to bed now but took a quick snap of the wire. Do you think this looks ok or should I do more flattening? Attachments:

Looking at the pic esme, I would use the bottom join as the one running to the positive connection (center post) that's the one least likely to stick out. Not a bad job there, should work a treat
