That doesnt mean I lack confidence to do it, or have some other insecurity. I just think its the death knell for us all. A quote from shinders list: "its having power, and choosing NOT to use it. That,........THAT is power".

Its a six and two 3's situation isn't it, yes its legal and permitted but joe public on the whole is pretty ignorant about the whole e-cig vaping thing and as soon as they see vapour they're going to think its smoke and kick up a fuss.
The trouble these days is that more often than not joe public opens his mouth and shouts before he's had time to think "maybe I should just ask that guy what he's doing".
I don't vape to get round the smoking ban, I vape because its far less harmful than smoking and I feel ten times better than I did when I smoked, if I have to sit on a bus or a train for an hour and not vape then its no biggy or its an SDK and hold the vapour in till its gone.
The more we try to ram vaping down joe publics throat the more problems we're going to have in trying to get e-cigs and vaping generally accepted, as joe public is usually determined to be right even when he's totally bally wrong.

I was in the bakery's the other day and while at the counter I finished paying and tried to get the bag with my sandwich and cake in well, my egowas in the way of the handles, so I looked at the woman behind me and said "oh my E cig is in the way" and smiled, she looked at me and smiled and said "yeah I just had a real one outside" so I explained how good the e cig is. She looked at me weirdly and said " oh no I'm not ready for that" hmmmmm I thought to myself she made me feel like I'm a druggy with her looks and actions lol People see electric, think electric and see the liquid and think it's something out of the norm, but I laughed and walked out thinking "poor woman standing outside having to smoke something which is so unhealthy and not realising that the healthy option was what I was holding in my hand

Glyn, are you going to take that letter, or a copy with you every time you use London transport just in case? I would.

I do look at people smoking and hope one day they quit or take up e cigs. Its crazy as I never had any intentions of quitting!

I actually got into a huge row with A+E last weekend even though my consultant doesn't have a problem with it . So I vaped under the blanket cos it helped my head (and I really needed a vape by that point). All the usual bally from the sister about how smoking is illegal indoors and how like it would set off the fire alarm. I thought 'don't insult me when you've not examined me properly then discharged me'. It's about courtesy. I vaped in a pub fine the other day. Not a prob. So yeah.....discretion and courtesy is the key. Obviously if you're just traveling for an hour on public transport then try not to vape and don't vape on stagecoach as they've banned them. But if it's a 6 hour or longer x country then use your common sense....

Just want to say that I only have this as an email. Have now used this to support a query with Greater Anglia trains to keep the momentum going. Anyone want to try their own lines?
My reasoning was due to there being no guidelines from these companies and feeling hard done by, when persuing a legal activity clandestinely. I still will only do this if the conditions suit.
I do however find this a moral victory.

It's good to know, but I still don't think I would vape on a packed tube. Now if only Virgin Trains would get with the program and allow it; I checked before I travelled to London last week and they said no.
One evening this week I was vaping in one of my favourite safe-to-vape bars, and one of the bar staff sudennly hurried across the room to where I was sitting, then said with noticeable relief, "Oh! It's one of those!" He'd apparently seen the vapour and thought I was smoking a real one.
So it seems that it's the vapour that confuses and worries people. I wonder if there's a way of mixing juice that gives off no vapour but still gives the flavour and nic hit? Pure PG with no VG maybe?

We now have Greater Anglia:
Dear Mr White,
Thank you for your email concerning electronic cigarettes.
I can confirm that it is illegal to smoke a lit cigarette on our network, including our trains, ticket halls and platforms. However, passengers who wish to use an electric cigarette are currently not prohibited from doing so as long as it is neither lit nor discharges smoke.
I hope you find this information helpful, once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Yours sincerely,
Natasha Ward Customer Relations Advisor Greater Anglia
