Hi James, did you say you'd be getting GV in before you go on holiday? I'm still struggling to find a flavour that replicates real cigarettes (not ready yet for exotic flavours!) as I'm not really getting into vaping as much as I'd hoped. I notice a few people are suggesting getting high nic (I smoke no more than 10 a day and low tar so went for medium nicotine but it's just not doing it for me yet so I think I need to try something stronger). I'm envious reading about the 2-3 new members who are doing so well, even though I'm not a heavy smoker compared to some, I really want vaping to work for me as I'm often short of breath and I expect I stink too though most are too polite to say so! I'm thinking GV might work for me, but I don't really know. cheers Gilly

Thanks all, sounds useful. For a few weeks now I've been waiting to hear about my application for voluntary redundancy (a recent equal pay review has increased my hours, decreased my salary and I'll have to pay £2.50 per day for the privilege of parking at my office so I've decided I've had enough!) and am quite stressed so, still being very new to vaping, it isn't doing the trick and I'm back on the cigs. Well, I never actually stopped, but I'd cut down quite a bit, now I'm back up again! All my stuff is in a box at the moment, but I've been lurking on the forum because I was worried about the June ban - once all has been sorted I definitely want to try again and I wasn't sure what to do about ordering juice before the ban. Now the immediate threat has eased, with a bit of luck I'll finish work soon and have time to really look into things Anyway, I'm learning more and more from you all so keep up the good work! cheers Gilly

I know this has probably been explained elsewhere but I can't remember where - what exactly is a passthrough? Gilly

Well, my e-cigs arrived this morning - didn't expect them so soon! Put one battery of each (901 and 510) on charge straight away. Later came the fiddly bit - didn't get any pre-filled cartridges so had to fill a blank one. That was a performance - I don't know if I put enough juice in. Then - suck suck (reminded me of those 'fresh air' cigs - were they Craven A? - you had to suck them so hard your eyeballs nearly popped out) reasonable amount of vapour but very little hit so I sucked harder and slower, had a coughing fit and had to rush to the bathroom to throw up. Not a good start! It was the 901 I tried first with an automatic battery. I don't know if it's just that I don't like the juice - VS Defender medium - or if I did something wrong filling it, or not enough battery power or what. There's a slightly plastic taste - I've seen a few people mention that and that it usually wears off quite quickly. I've watched a couple of the videos which are quite helpful, but unfortunately I'm hearing impaired and recorded sound is particularly unintelligible to me - I can't watch TV or DVDs without subtitles and I usually have to get someone else to transcribe answerphone messages for me - so I had to rely on the picture only. If there was any good advice or dire warnings on the voice-over they passed me by completely. Obviously I'll have to persevere but I'm rather less enthusiastic now - throwing up does that to me! No, that's really helpful, Chrissie - I saw some grumbles on another forum about the auto shut off but didn't realise what it was referring to. You sort of assume auto would be better for a new e-smoker (sorry - vaper) but from what you say I think manual sounds better to me. I must stop dithering and buy one - I think I've decided on the 901 (then again the 510 sounds good . . .) Oh rats, I'm off to have a fag cheers Gilly

Thanks for your encouragement. Another question - is a manual or automatic battery better for beginner? I'm not sure I really understand the difference ???

Hi all I'm Gilly, been smoking for about 33 years but I'm not a heavy smoker - I used to smoke about 15 a day but for a few years now I've managed to keep it down to under 10 a day. However, contrary to what some people think, just because I smoke 'only' 9 a day doesn't mean it's easy to give up - it isn't. I've tried giving up a couple of times, the last time, about 4 years ago, I managed for 12 weeks but the whole time I never felt like a non-smoker or an ex-smoker, just like a smoker who wasn't smoking at the moment. When my mum was suddenly taken into hospital I started smoking again, but if I'm honest I'd been waiting for that excuse for the whole of the 12 weeks! I really fancy trying e-cigs and I've been reading through this forum and the MSE one for advice. Trouble is every time someone suggests one I follow the link and think, yes, this sounds good, then I follow another link and like the look of that one too and I end up more confused than when I started! My first instinct was to say that I want one that's exactly like a real cig, but as some have pointed out, not so many of them are now. However, I do think I would prefer a small light one as it would feel more 'natural', at least to start with. I currently smoke Sterling Blue Superkings i.e. low tar - they are 0.6 mg nicotine per cig and I'm on 9 a day at the moment. Would the 510 be better for me than the 901, do you think? I know it will take longer for me to see much money saving as I'm a lightish smoker but I might smell nicer! And even as a light smoker I get very short of breath sometimes - that was what prompted me to give up 4 years ago but the addiction proved too much! Hope you aren't all bored answering the same old questions! cheers Gilly
