as far as my understanding goes is that there are no potential harmful gasses from SS - be it 316, 316L, 317, 317L or 430 unlike other TC capable wires namely Ti / Ni200 when pulsed red hot
it does have a lower resistance than Kanthal (or other FeCrAl wires) or NiChrome (N80) so it needs more wraps / bigger ID for a mech.

didnt like how chocolate and sandstone came out (closest to dark brown and light brown with Rit DyeMore - regular brown Rit Dyes lose pigments on nylon plastic) - so slapped on a contrasting color over the chocolate after re-distressing the sandstone off

great minds and all that - my favourite idea is dark brown - distress - lighter brown. sort of a patinated bronze look

Success - eventually
first off - some decent scissors do the job much easier and better than anything else for cutting / shaping the sheet
in the end i went for a regular 13mm drill bit after drilling a pilot hole - and destroyed the first negative plate as it snagged and ripped it apart (i had secured it to a bit of wood with nails). for the second i went really - really slowly and although it kept snagging i got a working result although not the neatest hole.
bought 2 more bits of 36x18mm fine silver and had a chat to a guy a few doors down who is a retired engineer.
he said i had to 'back off' a drill bit so it grinds rather than cuts - and promptly searched through his 100s of drills - fired up a bench grinder and ground back the cutting edge of the bit the other way.
this did a perfect hole with virtually no snagging.

thanks for the replies
i had test fitted the MM510 from a Runt (as i was taking it apart to see how the contacts fitted the new mod) - turns out it has a longer centre pin than the new one that arrived from modmaker. A test fit of the new one has just about enough room to fit the bottle without cutting down the pin.
the one from the Runt has a knurled brass part above the smooth brass nut where your contacts touch - and the new one has 2 smooth brass nuts.

i have 2 left hands made mostly of thumbs - which is why i am largely a concientious objector to DIY type jobs however, in a moment of idiocy i decided to make a 3D printed mod and much to my chagrin i find i need to shorten the ModMaker squonking 510 pin so the bottle fits my first question is what is the best way to cut 2-3mm off the pin? i was thinking something along the lines of a cutting disc on a drill - such as.... or is there a better alternative? also in making the copper contacts... i need to make a ~12-13mm hole in the negative contact to fit round the MM510. is a step drill the best way to achieve this? such as.... again - any advice or pointers appreciated. then i'd just need to buy the bits and borrow a drill....

do you throw these mods with built in batteries in the bin after 6 months or so when the battery is knackered? or take them apart and swap in (?solder in - or what?) another cell? gear is so cheap these days it's often not worth the faff to try and change the battery..... retire them to the "old dead vape display" shelf* *not a fan myself, but Mini-Gun#1 is, and already has quite a collection so add them to 'that pile of crap that you cant quite bring yourself to throw away yet coz you spent good money on it and dont want to believe it is worthless coz you can still get a few tokes off it in an emergency before the battery is flat again'? the mini volt and the elfin 40 would be 1000 times more desireable imo with swappable 18350s
