Storm if your running on coax mate your not running on cable your running essentially on the same current system as bt.
Cable when first rolled out to my knowledge has always been fibre optic. Thats all I know and all I remember, but agree shocking cabling.

The way they are doing it storm
BT will offer from lowest expected speed which should be about 51 mb up to 72. If people are getting less there is a problem
But virgin do roll fibre to the house just not in the house for safety reasons.

I hear what your saying but yes they would still have to upgrade the switch to be able to deal with more data being sent is what im trying to say apologies if im not making sense, had a fab day celebrating and the pimms has been flowing.
But maccafan you are confusing me about faster adsl, are you talking about infinity thats fibre to the cabinet??

That would be coming from the switch virgin are able to offer faster bb because the data sent along the cable tends to not lose as much as the old coax cable. e.g send 100 mg you will get around 92mb in theory. The cable therefore goes to the outside of your house then the remaining cable about a foot or so is coax.
Bt however are doing Fibre to the cabinet so the coax then runs from the cabinet to your house unless your in a 100meg area, which means the exchange has been fibre enable and the cable can be put right to your door.

Macca thats interesting very much so however that is not what we were trained up to give information out on.
Virgin media like bt has their own switch/exchange nationally which covers proportions of areas not as many as bt however. They have to upgrade each and every switch to be able to cope with the extra capacity hence, why they are doing it in phases. I only know this because when I worked in teeside it was also one of the switches. Sunderland is the next one down from that. They were the old cable company switches.

it does macca fan they have to do work in their switch to make the speed faster that was the last training we got before I left virgin. But sometimes they have already enabled it but roll out the speed later.

Perpetua I used to work for virgin, OK in circumstances such as that select the option that you want toleave and only that option.
You will then be passed through to a UK contact centre, who will in turn get you through to a UK contact centre in Swansea tech support.
Tell them your not happy and you want to disconnect due to service issues and I promise you it sill getsorted, on the other hand cancel your Bb with them and join infinity much more reliable and just as fast. #icon_cheers#
