SKYCIG have launched a National Television Advert campaign.
They are using the ads to promote a 14.99 starter kit called 'SkyStart'
Damien Scott , UK Commercial Director, SKYCIG said:
"Producing the first SKYCIG TV commercial was very challenging, especially with it being the first advert of its kind in the UK. It's so rewarding to see the final and fully approved advert and it's great to be part of a brand which is so pioneering in the industry. I believe that the clearance of such an advert shows how attitudes towards e-cigarettes are changing and how the products are being recognised as a healthier alternative to smoking"
This is the first UK television advert for a nicotine containing electronic cigarette - at a price point that almost makes it semi-disposable.

An Article in todays Guardian Newspaper says that only Puritans ... and tobacco smokers – can't take the fact that electronic cigarettes are harmless and enjoyableIt goes on to give an account of one journalists' switch to e-cigs from smoking and explains that the proposed EU Tobacco Products Directive is "Nonsense" a good account of all the issues involved - the smokers jealousy, the anti smokers rage that e-cigs are safe - the harm reduction. As well as the Pharmaceutical involvement and the EU interference. www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/jan/05/e-cigarettes-tobacco-harmless-enjoyableAn excellent article - well worth a read. .

Regardless of if you support UKIP or not, this is a good move.
The fact that they have come out clearly against e-cig regulation makes it clear to MEP's (and MP's) from other parties that there are votes to be lost over this, and lots of votes, at that.

UKIP have become the first political party, with representatives in the EU, so declare that they are firmly opposed to the electronic cigarette regulation proposed in the Tobacco Products Directive, and the TPD in general. Paul Nuttall, the Deputy Leader of UKIP said : '' I find this particularly crazy as e-cigarettes are healthier alternatives to smoking. And, as I have previously said, the European Commission will not stop here, next it will be alcohol and foods," www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/2/news-headlines/76356/cigarette-legislation-criticisedNow is the time to be contacting your Euro-MP's to express alarm about the proposed changes. UKIP's policy is clear, they are against e-cig regulation - Now MEP's from all parties must be made aware of the importance of opposing the proposed changes. Contact your MEP's now. .

BREAKING NEWS:Tobacco Giant, British American Tobacco has bought out Intellicig and it's parent company CN Creative in a deal worth 10's on millions of pounds.news.sky.com/story/1027436/british-american-tobacco-in-e-cigarettes-dealBoth CN Creative and BAT are preparing statements. This follows from rumours that have been circulating in the business for some time now that Tobacco companies are poised to move in to the e-cig business. The deal will see BAT pressing ahead and financing the 'Nicadex' product which will be seeking a market authorisation as a smoking cessation device. As well as promoting the Intellicig range throughout existing distribution channels. Companies like BAT have invested heavily over the years into developing distribution channels and will want to keep these after the tobacco display ban has forced them to cover up. E-cig products will enable them to maintain a visible presence on the high street for their products.

If they have chosen to go down the 'legal' route then they presumably have made sure that they are 100% legally watertight themselves ??
It was only a few days ago that they were posting in the Health & Legal section of UKV that they had received a visit from Trading Standards and that the liquid that they had been selling for the past 9 months was not labelled correctly, and that they were not sure what a 100% legally compliant label looked like.
So if they are going to get 'legal' we can only assume that ALL of their Own Label and Dekang liquids being sent out from today onwards are now all fully re-labeled and up to scratch, and that their products have full Product Liability Insurance, and that their mains/usb chargers are fully compliant.
I hope that people ordering their liquid (or any other product) don't find that it is not fully compliant (including Tactile Warning Label) and find themselves morally obliged to report this to G4S's local Trading Standards office which is based at
Trading Standards Service County Hall Pitt Street Preston Lancashire PR1 0LD
and can be telephoned on 01772 533569
or emailed at tsgeneralmail@lancashire.gov.uk

Everyone knows that there are certain requirements for the labels on a bottle of e-liquid. There are certain warnings that have to be in place, the lid has to be 'childproof' and there should be a raised triangle, or "tactile warning label" on the bottle.
Actually there should also be the address of the manufacturer (if they are inside the EU) or the Importer (if the manufacturer is outside the EU).
These are called CHIP requirements and come from The Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 2009
These rules are clear and unambiguous, and all main Vendors know them.
Perhaps, in the past, the application of these rules has been a bit slap-dash, but now that the market has grown beyond all expecations, all the main Vendors seem to be sticking to these regulations (and rightly so).
One thing I have noticed is that there are some new e-liquid sellers that do not seem to know about the requirements, some have been trading for several months. Personally, I believe that a new e-liquid company should take the time and effort to find out about the rules before they begin trading but I often hear the defence that "we are new" ! as if that makes it all okay.
Am I wrong ? - I dont think it is valid to say "we are new" to make it all okay and this seems like cutting corners and gaining an unfair advantage over responsible Vendors that take the time and effort to make sure their liquids are legally compliant.

As reported on ECF www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/media-general-news/344420-california-alcohol-drug-educators-caade-endorses-thr-e-cigarettes.htmlThe California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators (CAADE) has confirmed that it now formally endorses electronic cigarettes. They have said "many organizations are focused far more on fighting smoking than helping smokers. This blinds them to the opportunity a cleaner nicotine delivery method offers to individuals that are unable to quit entirely." "I am pleased to announce that the California Association for Alcohol and Drug Educators (CAADE) has formally endorsed the use of THR and electronic cigarettes. To my knowledge this is the first major organization in the addiction treatment world to take such a stand, and I will send this on to other similar groups and ask them for similar support." - Professor Jack Kearney

Hifistud, I notice that ECCA are one of the stakeholders, so perhaps they could do a consultation of their own and push this into the consultataion process ?

NICE, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, has just launched a new consultation on draft guidelines for people who can't quit smoking. (and presumably people who don't want to quit smoking) The main body of the draft is based around NRT (gum, patches, lozenges etc) and it is now recommending that people who cannot quit should use these products to "cut down". In terms of electronic cigarettes, NICE say this: "Advisers should inform people who smoke that some nicotine-containing products (for example, electronic cigarettes) are not currently regulated by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and so their safety and quality can't be assured. However, tell them that these products are likely to be less harmful than cigarettes."NICE will not recommend e-cigs, because they are not a medicinal product, but the change in policy is significant - Advisers should tell them that these products are likely to be less harmful than cigarettes - this is a step forward from "we cannot recommend them", the previous policy. This is guidance forms part of a consultation that will run between 24th October and 19th December 2012. The final outcome is due to be published in May 2013, co-incidently, the same time the the MHRA is due to anounce a 'light touch' regulation of e-cigs. The NICE press release is here www.nice.org.uk/newsroom/pressreleases/NICEConsultsOnDraftGuidanceToHelpPeopleWhoCantQuitSmokingInOneStep.jspThe NICE tobacco harm reduction schedule and key documents here www.nice.org.uk/guidance/index.jsp?action=byID&o=13018

Legal Disclaimer - the following post is in no way intended to allege the former EU Health Commisioner John Dalli has commited any wrong-doing or had any knowledge of any wrong-doing, and to point out that Mr Dalli has denied any part in the fraud allegations. The police are investigating break-ins at the offices of 3 anti-smoking lobby groups in which thieves stole material related to their campaigns against the tobacco industry. (more info here) The burglaries took place 2 days after the Health Commissioner, John Dalli, resigned following a corruption investigation. The latest development is that Swedish Match, a producer of SNUS, said that it had been asked for a €60-million bribe to arrange for the lifting of a European ban on the product outside Sweden. (details here) Swedish Match said "The Maltese businessman expressed to us very clearly that he was speaking on behalf of Dalli." - although Mr Dalli denies this. The fraud unit, which has passed its findings to the Maltese authorities, itself acknowledged that it had found no conclusive evidence that Mr. Dalli had directly participated in requesting money. However, it concluded: “There are a number of unambiguous circumstantial pieces of evidence” indicating that “Commissioner Dalli was aware of the activities of the Maltese entrepreneur and of the fact that this person was using the Commissioner’s name and position to gain financial advantages.” - ( Fraud Unit Press Release - here ) The changes to the EU Tobacco Products Directive, are now on hold for a minimum of 2 years (details here) New Europe, the European Political Newspaper has reported about the Tobacco Lobby working actively from inside the European Parliament and the Wikipedia page for SNUS is updated from a computer whose IP address is located inside the European Parliament building itself (details here) Sweden is stepping up its efforts to lift the European Union's ban on SNUS tobacco opening up a $2.3 billion market for Swedish Match. Swedish officials have long argued that SNUS offers a safer alternative than other forms of tobacco. ( details here ) The Swedish trade minister said "I hope the EU Commission themselves now see that all cards must come up on the table and all facts need to be discussed openly," and also that the Commission has so far ignored scientific research indicating that the stuff is less harmful than cigarettes and other forms of smokefree tobacco - They now want any new Tobacco Products Directive to re-consider SNUS in a "fair way" Swedish Match Press Release hereSo Dalli has resigned, the Tobacco Products Directive is dead in the water and Sweden demanding the EU ban on SNUS be lifted in any new Tobacco Products Directive. One thing is sure, this story known as "tobaccogate" is far from over.
