I don't believe it either @dozerman but the docs and the diabetic team have been told not to issue any more prescriptions for test meter strips.
Why, I don't know. It does seem crazy to me that those in authority would rather see people ill and possibly hospitalised rather than spend a few quid on a box of plastic strips.
But Hi Ho, we live in a crazy world where we are governed by those who would be more useful empty our Bins.

Hi @dozerman I am at 13mmol today and I hope to be back within range by the time I have used up the box of strips I have borrowed.
I will buy 2 or 3 boxes, replace the borrowed box and then just use a test strip perhaps once or twice a week just to keep me inline.
I do like my Co-op Curries and other "non-diabetic" foods, so it is best that I monitor my bloods regularly.
However we have both being on monitoring for a while now and I'm sure the docs would notice if we started using more than normal. Thanks to the SNP, doctors and other health services are being squeezed to save every penny they can and how long we can continue to receive "free health care" is in the lap of the gods.

Yes @dozerman I am type 2. What annoys me is that my Mrs, also type 2 will continue to receive her test strips etc because she is on other Blood Reducing medication. In the meantime, I have "borrowed" a box from her which I will need to replace. It she can wait until March, I'll buy her a box for her Birthday. Generosity is my middle name!!!!

I am looking for some Spearmint Concentrate to buy.
Does anyone know of any British Vendor that you can recommend?

I have now been in contact with my Diabetic Team and the practise of NOT doing self metering is a NHS directive. Whether this is a Scotland only thing or a National one, I know not.
The team's instructions are now that if I feel that my blood/sugar is too high, I have to attend my surgery and see the doctor. How I am supposed to know that my B/S is too high without metering myself, they couldn't answer me. The fact that I have other problems that may also hide any variation with my B/S Levels is tough titties as far as they are concerned.
The only Diabetic patients that are allowed to get blood monitoring equipment on prescription are those that take other blood reducing drugs.
Fortunately and thanks to the Internet, I can buy the necessary metering strips at about £25 for a box of 50. So even if our "caring and sharing" NHS do not give a toss for my health, £25 a month to make sure that I never again suffer the way I have in the past 4 months is a small price to pay.

Hi Postmodern Smoking I will tell the Diabetic Team about what happened. They are in a much better position to sweep it under the carpet.I’d complain far and wide Hi Greg, I actually said that they were in a far better position to do something about it.
While this doctor has made a mistake, albeit one that has made me rather ill, I will not be complaining "far and wide". I will report it to the appropriate team and they will deal with it.
I have complete trust in my Diabetic Team who have looked after me for 7 years now. However, any further "suggestions" from our doctors will be run past the Diabetic Team before I take any actions.

Hi Postmodern Smoking I will tell the Diabetic Team about what happened. They are in a much better position to do something about it. IE, They have much more "clout" than myself, a mere patient.

The MOD made me an offer I couldn't refuse when I turned 50 and I haven't worked since. That was 21 years ago. Retirement is Hell, NOT!!!!
It will be into the New Year before I can contact the Diabetic Team. We live out in the sticks and so we share the team with other areas.
With my B/S at 15 this morning, after my usual food intake, it was 14.1 this evening, it is still coming down and tonight I am feeling better than I have in months. However as soon as I can get an appointment with the team, I will.

Actually I have not been to the doctor. The doctor is the one that has caused all this and so I am determined to try to sort this all out by getting myself back to a respectable B/S Level and then see the Diabetic Sister to have it out with her.
My B/S Level was 15 this morning, so we are getting there. Another 10mmol, first thing in the morning and I will be happy.
I don't feel as if I have done any permanent damage, but I will still have to be very careful from here on in.
I am very annoyed that the doctor gave me such stupid advice and the problems that it has caused me, especially at this time of year. However, I will not say anything to the surgery about it, but leave it to the Diabetic Clinic to sort out.
Thanks @dozerman for your answers. They were most helpful.

I know this might sound like a daft question @dozerman but does the amount of e-juice change when your mmol goes up and down.
I normally get through about 2.1ml of juice a day, but recently that has halved. Another sign that something was wrong.

Thanks @dozerman I went from 15 to 22 over today so coming down, albeit slowly.
I have cut out all sugars, switched my drinks to bottled water and generally being very careful.
But this situation didn't happen overnight and I expect it will take a while to get back to what it should be. I just wish it would hurry up!!!

It is 6 months now since I have posted on this Stroke business, but after events, I think it is about time I brought you up to date. Stroke wise, I am coping although when I get down, usually by evening time, my speech becomes difficult and I loose concentration. However, far worse was to come and I have only just found out that over the past 6 months I have become very ill indeed. I was at the doctor last June and when he realised that I was Diabetic and that I was metering my Blood/Sugar Levels, he said that I was to stop doing this because I had been doing so for a long time and that my levels no longer needed monitoring. This was the first time I had visited this guy as he us a new doctor to the Surgery. I naturally presumed that some new directive had come out in relationship to B/S Monitoring. So I stopped doing my B/S Monitoring and carried on with life. When the effects of the Stroke, my bad speech and the increasing inability to do the simplest of tasks continued to get worse, I blamed it all on the Stroke. Then, 3 days before Christmas, I was so bad that it reminded me of the time when I took Diabetic Poisoning and ended up in hospital on a drip and kept in for a week. Realising that what was happening possibly had nothing to do with the Stroke but something to do with my Blood/Sugar Level, I dug out my old Meter, put new batteries in it and checked my B/S Level. It was off the scale!!!!! No wonder I had no energy, was as high as a kite, peeing 24/7 and had a host of other ailments that I have not had in years. Only time will tell if I can get back to my normal, controlled blood/sugar level and whether I have done any permanent damage. I cannot help wondering how much better I would be feeling now if this B/S thing had not happened. 4 days ago my B/S Level was 26.1mmol. Today it was down to 15mmol. So if you are looking for a left over Christmas Dinner, don't come to our house. You're more likely get offered Bred & water!!!!

Just like Humans, different breeds of animals are susceptible to food additives,
We had a lot of trouble with Eye Staining with our first Bichon. That Rust Coloured stain that white or pale coloured pets get that comes from the corner of the eyes and runs down their cheeks leaving a brown, unsightly mark. We tried everything to remove it, including food additives from the USA that are banned here in the UK.
It wasn't until our second Bichon arrived and he came with some dog food, recommended by his Breeder, that we found out the cause and the answer to the Rust Staining. This is caused by a reaction between Beef and Tears and the only way to avoid Tear Staining is to cut out all Beef from your pet's food.
Fortunately there is such of Pet Food and it is called James Wellbeloved.
Like I say, our second Bichon came with some of this food and having been kept on this, he has never suffered from Tear Staining. Within 3 weeks of changing our first Bichon onto James Wellbeloved foods, there was a marked improvement in his facial colour and within 6 weeks all trace of the staining had disappeared.
Sometimes you have to search hard for the answers to our pet's problems and sometimes the answers come from the most unlikely places, so keep an open from all sources. Watch what is going in one end and what is coming out the other end and if "Happiness" is the bit in-between, then all is well!!!!!
