Although I am now a Dacia Duster owner, over the years I have been privileged to drive many different 4X4 vehicles both owned and at my work. However there is only one that I would love to own, but I would need to win the lottery to afford to buy a decent one, insure it and fuel it. The Landrover 101. The vehicle really is a joy to drive and ofcourse, converted into a Camper Van, it will take you anywhere.

You and me both mate!
Up until the Referendum I had been a Nationalist for nearly 50 years. But since it, I am no so sure.
I have serious misgivings about the ways the Nats are heading and the aims they are proposing for my country.

Yes you are quite correct.
The Dacia has a Renault Engine and Nissan running gear.
Dacia is owned by Renault.

Dacia left hand drive cars are made in Rumania. The right hand drive ones are made in India. There is a lot of snobbishness regarding foreign cars, especially those made outside the EU and so, as well as general reliability, you have to contend with other people's perception of what makes a good motor vehicle and anything going wrong with the car tends to be put down to where it was manufactured rather than a straight mechanical failure.
This ofcourse is a joke because the 2 things that went wrong with my Duster were due to bad workmanship by a firm in Newcastle who fitted my "upgrades". IE the Parking Sensors and the Towbar. Part of the Parking Sensors had been missed out completely and the Towbar bolts that hold it to the chassis had not been tightened up at all and were only finger tight.

<<<Have you had the opportunity to test it in snow ? >>> Not yet ArcturionI bought the Duster to pull our caravan out of muddy caravan parks, but not had to use it for that yet. However I also have a ute trailer and the Duster has pulled that out of a few trouble spots. We went for the Ambience because I thought it would be better, for us, than the Laureate, but I misunderstood the bumf on the Laureate and if we bought another Dacia, that is what we would go for. However, as I have a 7 year warranty on the Duster, I will not be buying another one anytime soon. Going on the 85% KW towing suggestion, the Duster will safely tow up to 1164Kg. Our van is just under this, but modern vans are usually well over this limit and so, for caravanners the Duster is usually too small. The Official (Dacia) MPG is 53.3mpg, but Which Magazine says a truer one is 43.9mpg. The best I have had from mine was 49mpg.

Yes whiteclouds, 4 year crop rotation. Each bed is 5 foot by 10 foot but I am still to work just how much stuff I can cram into each bed. There seems to be quite a bit of different opinions by different "experts" on this subject. Guess I will just need to suck it and see. I too have an auto watering system in the greenhouse and also to the rest of the garden just for when we go away in the caravan for a couple of weeks. However I can see these trips being reduced somewhat once the garden starts producing.

You still happy with yours lobeydosser, just been reading your old thread. I'm over the moon with mine!
Over the years I have had a number of different vehicles and the Duster is the only one that if it was written off in an accident I'd go straight out and buy another.
Yes it is basic and I'm sure there are other cars out there that would be more comfortable, but for the price and for what you get, there is nothing else to touch it. It is the first "new car" that I have ever been able to afford and, being a 4 wheel drive, it does more than I will ever need.

Hi gill2009, everything takes time and I only spend what I have saved from not smoking. But it is nice to sit on the deck of an evening, vaping ofcourse, while I watch the dogs play in the garden.

3 years ago and again, thanks to the money I had saved from changing from Smoking to Vaping, the other side of our Back Garden went from this;- To this;- People stop me in the street when they see the e-cig hanging from my lanyard and ask ne if I get any benefits from Vaping instead of smoking. If only they could look over my fence and see for themselves the whole new world that has opened up to me thanks to Vaping and the folks on this Forum.

I was born one morning when the sun didn't shine. I picked up my shovel and I went to the mine. I loaded 16 tons and what did I get? Another day older and deeper in debt. Like the song, I am now another day older and when the soil bill arrives, I'll be deeper in debt, so for those that are mildly interested in what 16 tons looks like.....

Whilst that book is full of great ideas about where you can grow veggies and growing vertical crops, I am a little disappointed that much of the crops shown and explained are for warmer climes and of the sort that are not freely available in the shops and therefore not known by the majority of the readers.
I cannot remember the last time I tasted Cucamelons, Pea Shoots, Florence Fennel, Kohl Rabi, Swiss Chard, Pak Choi, Japanese Wineberries, French Sorrel, Lovage or African Basil and that is before we get onto the more exotic plants.
I'm afraid I am more of a down to earth basic Spuds, Neeps and Lettuce guy and so books on Allotment Gardening, albeit on a much reduced output, are more helpful regarding what I can grow and expected harvesting times.
I don't know if it is still true, but in the past there was only certain varieties of Potato that we were allowed to grow here is Scotland. As no gardening book that I have read so far has mentioned this, I will need to look further into this.

Like thatguy says, I guess I am searching for The Good Life vibe. Our village store is only 100 yards from our house and I can buy most veg there either "fresh" (???) or frozen, but how fresh is their fresh and how old is their frozen? Frozen veg has its appeal because there is usually no wastage so I am not paying for bits to bin. However, in the future, with a proper compost heap, all "the bits" that I would normally bin, will go back into the soil in the form of enriching compost. Not just recycling, but an essential part of the whole process. Ofcourse the whole "Good Life" theme is dammed hard work with long hours for little return and I do like my laid back retirement, hence my gardening has to be as easy and as laid back as I can possibly make it. Unfortunately I am a bit out of touch with modern varieties and recent advances in propagation so, like I was 3 years ago when I took up Vaping, I am back on a steep learning curve devouring knowledge on gardening and small allotment management. Oh well, I don't get a sore back and muddy feet, reading!!!!!
