OK, so I'm gathering up the courage here, but not rushing into anything. At this stage, I'm in the "asking dumb hypothetical questions" phase, so if you don't mind humouring me whilst backing away into a corner and making excuses about needing to wash your hair/having an appointment I'd be extremely grateful. Suppose in the early days of mixing you make a blend, only to discover that it's missing an ingredient you don't have? Let me put this another way. I only actually really like two flavours: Vanilla custard and peppermint. Three, if you count plain vanilla, but that's a second choice. I can see, however, that if I just buy PG/VG and those flavours, I may find my mixes are missing something. A sweetener may be necessary, I can see that, but what else? Forget the nicotine base, BTW, I'm going zero nicotine here. I don't want to find that I've made a mix and it tastes pants because it needs a certain something that I didn't buy in the first place. OTOH, I don't want to buy 1001 ingredients I don't really need. If my courage grows or my tastes change, then I will, and of course, there's always the classifieds on here to pass or sell on anything I buy that's useless, but if I can make sensible decisions (with your guidance) in the first place, then maybe I can avoid this. I know I could follow an existing recipe, and if that's the advice, then fine. I'm just worried that if that recipe isn't to my taste, then I may still be missing that other ingredient which may make it better.

Air France used to have an interesting policy regarding smoking, in the faraway days when it was being slowly phased out by the world's airlines. They banned smoking on internal and short haul flights, whilst still permitting it on long haul, giving rise to some interesting situations. I woke up on a flight from La Reunion as it landed in Bordeaux en route for Paris. I'd been sitting in a smoking seat and smoking up to that point, so once we took off again I thought I would light up, but was told I was now on a no -smoking flight.same plane, crew and passengers, but a whole new set of rules. Same cabin air, too, so those boarding at Bordeaux weren't really gaining any benefit.

Actually, as I'm a freelance translator and language teacher, I didn't need to google it... Sorry..just like you, as i see from your location,I've spent a fair time living and working around French people, they seldom use a small word when a big one will do! Whatever semantics you attach to the word, it still seems fairly inappropriate to the context, but that isn't a reflection on you, just on French officialdom!

Recidivist? That means someone who has committed a crime and then goes on to repeat the crime again, doesn't it? In English AND in French. So how does Air France decide that you"ve done it before if they catch you with an e-cig? ??? Odd. Unless, perhaps, the purser had just learned a new word and decided to try it for size.

The app I have on my iPad tells me that I have saved just over £140 since I started vaping. It also tells me that I've spent £150 on vaping! I'm just about to get to a point where those two figures are reversed. But I'm also going to be buying a few more bits... Shortly, though, I'm hoping to see the weekly cost of vaping drop to £20 a week, which is heaps less than I was spending on smoking. I haven't bought loads of kit, but its taken me around 2 months to get to this point.

Thanks for that, it's an interesting set of responses already. In one way, I guess I've already come a very, very long way. You see, I spent 8 years working for "big tobacco". That's eight years of free cigarettes. It was a while ago, but firmly cemented an existing habit into a way of life. Like I said, I can see what a great community the vaping community is, and I've no urgent plans to leave it, but... Doris Day hit it on the head. Que sera, sera.

Just wondering, out of curiosity more than anything: is there anyone out there who sees vaping as a step on the road to giving up ingesting nicotine altogether, or do you feel that by giving up actual cigarettes you've gone as far as you're prepared to go?
As I've said before, I accidentally started with very low nic juices, and so I've never actually tried vaping anything remotely strong. This, from a pack-a-day-plus smoking habit of light cigarettes.
I'm now wondering whether I couldn't eventually simply stop altogether. It's not something I'm in a rush to do, but it would be nice to think that eventually I could just keep my kit in my bag ready for that moment when I'm gripped by an urge to smoke (or vape) but not do it as a matter of habit. I've really noticed lately that whereas before I'd plan a smoke break into the most mundane task, I now just get on with what I'm doing and don't have to stop every 20 minutes or so.
I can understand, appreciate and enjoy the camaraderie that comes from vaping, and - who knows - I might find I can just carry on vaping quite happily, even if it's on zero nicotine juices. I don't know, though, if I'm really happy with swapping one habit for another, even if it's a much healthier one.
It's very early days for me, but I just wondered how many people started on this adventure with the firm intention of giving up altogether, and whether you've changed your plans?
