Not sure how silica as opposed to mesh will stop it shorting, & personally I find it more of a faff using silica in the Aga.
I always leave the syringe needle/paperclip, whatever I've used to wrap the mesh wick, in the wick when I wrap the coil, Just gives the wick some support & you can get the coil tight enough without strangling the wick. Also means you can play around with the coils without distorting the wick. Only when I'm happy with the coils do I remove the support & gently push the wick over to the center post to get rid of any bridge. Give the wire one full wrap around the center post to get rid of any slack then tighten the top nut.

+1 for Pratchett & McCaffrey, totally different styles but both excellent, can re-read both over & over.
Someone I can happily re-read on a regular basis is Jim Butcher & the Dresden Files, think a very very grown up Harry Potter with alot more nasties. He's also done a shorter series called the Codex Alera series, think he describes them as swords & saddles style.

Yep don't you just love the Aga-t . . . . . . actually I do when I can get it set up right, but the problem I have with mine is to get the center post tight enough to make sure I don't get any leaks, it's pulling the center post up so I lose connection Thought I'd got it sussed by ordering some SS micro washers. All I need is one to thread the center post through at the bottom & stop it from recessing. So they arrived today . . . . & the numpty has sent me nylon washers, perfect size but blerdy nylon What with that & a nasty letter from HRMC think I might just crawl back into bed.

This sounds more complicated than i thought,i meant the little piece of fabric that hangs over the sides of the clearo,it goes black in the middle and i thought i could replace that instead of the whole coil unit. The bit thats gone black in the middle is the coil, which is the reason you can't see it because it's been covered in gunk. It's ok watching the vids but everything looks huge when in reality the coil is only going to be 3/4mm wide. Yes . . . if you hold the wick to the side of the new head and gently take off the silicon cap you'll be able to see the nice new shiny coil wrapped around the wick.

Thanks for a super fast & painless transaction. OH is loving his Cobra, didn't actually do a new wick but did tighten it up & recoiled it & it's vaping a treat . . . unlike the PITA Aga-t that I was using Only problem is that he seems to have developed Todd-itous cos he thinks it's a bit gapalicious (2 new words for the dictionary) on the Sigelie . . . still makes it look like a WMD tho'

Don't like metal in my mouth so have to put up with plastic which can get a bit hot when I'm really caning it. Tempted to try ceramic or glass though... But I'd probably break them Yep know what you mean about the plastic ones getting hot. Not sure about glass but the ceramic are fairly robust, but FYI I've found the ordinary shape ones can also get warm so I use mainly the larger ming shape ones. Also they can be quite loose in things to start with
