I am I am! Cant believe how big the eaglets have got! The ospreys still have a couple of weeks incubating to do Peregrines getting huge now, and spending much more time on their lonesome than when they first hatched. They are still the prettiest of chicks. The goshawk has babies!!! - just being fed as I type! |

didnt bother going on electoral roll
decided voting for the party they prefer is a wasted vote as they have "no chance" of getting into power
disolusioned (sp) with all gvts regardless of the party, due to the misrepresentation of the publics views.

We could also end up with constantly being in coalitions, the green party, the yoga flyers or (shock horror) one of the big 2 as usual.
I will state AGAIN that I am not advocating someone being forced to vote for one of any group of candidates.. A vote can still be witheld!
As for the form filling not being that much different... well it isnt. Its still putting (in some cases) massive amounts of personal information into the powers that be's hands. Those same people which could/would misuse the voting system could/would misuse all the other information we are legally obliged to provide them.
As for the rather tiresome bolding that you found it necessary to do. I shall rephrase my comment as "...was a rarity, then the way you suggested of sending the message....". Happier?
Edited post to say we seem to be going round and round and round in circles on this. You and I are not going to agree on this issue Mr. L. Time to agree to disagree?

No you havent voted.
To vote you put a tick for a candidate. To choose NONE of those is not voting. What it is doing is sending a direct message to the gvt. Your telling them you could be bothered to get off you backside, turn up and tell them to stick their candidates where the sun doesnt shine.
If we lived in a country where not turning up was a rarity, then your way of sending the message would hold power. As it is, you just join the masses of people who cant be arsed to vote.
As for the shock horror forcing 100,000's of people to fill in a piece of paper... let me see. This isnt exactly something as difficult to comprehend as your suggesting! You intimate that to allow the gvt this piece of power would ultimatly remove our freedom. We allready fill in pieces of paper "against our wills". Its compulsory to complete the census, its compulsory to complete umpteen forms to live (tax, bank, birth/marriage/death, council tax, unemployment etc etc etc) in the uk. I am only talking about one more - and one you can choose to leave blank if you wished.
As for the punishment... I dont know yet, I would assume it should be the same for not completing the census.
