It's a very difficult question to answer, all depending on how well your silica is wicking and what voltage you are using. If you have fixed voltage and you are getting dry hits, i'd suggest adding another loop to your coil and take slower drags.

Yes, a lot of us have, good supplier. They assisted on an EVOD group buy for us, no complaints from me, not heard any from anyone else.

It has been done before, I think they call it a Hybrid wick. Why I like it: Central silica wick stops the bottom of coil grounding on bottom of tank, in my experience it wicks better than a hollow one. External silica sheath completely avoids the coil shorting out on the wick, which can sometimes be an issue, I also think it gets the juice onto the coil better and keeps the coil chamber clean and dry.

Depends on a few factors, and on the wick hole size. Assuming you are using an AGA-T with a stock wick hole...
If you want a hollow or silica filled wick, use the same size, about half a business card. If you want a solid wick, use about 50% more on the length.
The width isn't an issue, just make sure it's wide enough to reach from the bottom of the tank to above the positive post then trim it after fitting.
You don't want it to be too tight in the hole, nor too loose, once you get the hang of rolling wicks, it's a 2 minute job. If you buy an A5 sheet of mesh, it will last you ages, even after you have wasted a pile playing...

Could it work using 2mm silica as the core and then 3mm ekowool at the top? Probably, depends how tight you roll and how much mesh you use.
