I could be wrong (I'm not familiar with the Smok Knight), but could you have been accidently initially vaping in TC mode? Or maybe it hadn't read the resistance of the coil and was firing at too high a current for the actual coil's resistance. Selecting Yes to being a new coil probably means it now has read the actual coil resistance and therefore is able to supply the correct current to match the set Power (W). Hi mate you are bang on. I've noticed when it asks if it's a new coil sometimes it seems to read the tanks initial ohm stupidly high (normally its 0.6 but it had changed it to 2.0..) only way to fix it is by unscrewing the tank and screwing it in a few times till it offers a lower ohm. Why on earth would it do this?

I've finally worked out the problem. I was vaping a minute ago and it was like I was sucking it on max watt. I had noticed it had changed the initial ohm from 0.695 to 1.something. The only way i seem to be able to fix this is by unscrewing the tank and screwing it back on a few times. Every time I do this it asks me if it's a new coil and gives me a new initial ohm. Every time I unscrewed it and screwed it back in it gave me a lower number so I kept going until it gave me a number 0.4 Is my device faulty?

On my device I have the option to adjust my initial ohm. The default setting is 0.695. What does this do?
I run the device in VW mode
The only odd thing is that I have set the coil to 0.4 as that is what I use but the initial ohm is still set to 0.695 and doesn't go much lower
Can somebody explain this to me?
Thanks alot

It's probably Kanthal so it should be set to power or watts mode, not to TC. Hope this helps Ok thank you. I'm so confused it seems to have reset all the settings after I selected yes to it being a new coil and now seems fine :S It started vaping like I had it on max watt no matter what watt I had it on

Hope you are all well, I've not been on here in a long time. But I am so stuck and need some help.
I bought a Smok Knight kit,
Smok helmet tank and a koopor mini 2 battery
The coils I use are smok 0.4 ohm single Clapton coil. (smok helmet clp 0.4)
Can somebody please tell me whether this coil is no 200, titanium or steel.
Also what should I set the initial ohm to..
I've just got through two coils, seem to be getting a burnt taste no matter what I do. Even vaping at 20w and letting the new coil soak for 30 mins (don't know how to prime it)
Love you all x
Oh I just changed the initial ohm by accident and have no idea what it was set to

Thankyou so much for that. Tbh I tried 75w and it just tasted burnt unless I turned the temp down.. Mouth to lung? no thank you, Ill stick to my 0.2 haha, they do sell some CL 1.0 ohm coils that say they are for higher power, would that be better for 75w? its weird, before I upgraded the firmware, 20-30w seemed to produce hardly any vapour, but now at 20-30 it seems as if it is on 60w on the previous firmware Thank again And I thought that (About the 0.5 difference) funny though, obviously does make a difference x when using nickel wire coils DONT vape in V/Watt mode, thats a sure way to get a dry hit or worse a toxic hit when the metal burns. Nickel wire is ment for temp control or limiting vaping. the resistance of nickel wire changes predictably with temperature and its this property which is exploited by temp control mods but if you vape with a set wattage with nickel wire as it heats up and the resistance increases the power you apply just heats up the wire more and can burn it out at which point you could vape nasty comounds you doint want to, not as bad as TI wire but not nice all the same 500F ??? have u done a cotton burn/singe test to verify thats the temp that starts to singe the cotton with your mod? if not that might be a tad on the high side, the whole point of TC vaping is to set a coil temp limit that will ensure that when the juice runs out the coil wont heat upto a point to singe or burn the cotton and give you that horrible dry hit. the reason you may wish to do a singe test is to verify your mod is operating as expected, thing is the logic applied on the mod chip is 'best guestimate' and the electrical connections between the board and your coil ( solder points and mechanical connections like the 510 and screws securing the coil, can all add a margin of error.. so while dry cotton will singe/burn @ circa 220C (?430F) it may be 200c on your mod or 180C? or another value.. the burn singe test will verify that, and then you should set the temp to the setting 1 step lower and then vape with confidence the singe test is simple get an atty with a rebuildable deck fit a nickel coil and thread a length of cotton wick thru it and then set the mod to vape at say 180C fire it and pull the cotton thru a bit and see if its brown or singed, if not step up the temp by 1 step fire again etc until u hit the temp that burns on your mod.. not so easy to do with off the shelf coils tho .. So I would suggest you start vaping at lower temps and step up the temp gradually till your getting a full flavour vape and then stick at that temp.. hope thats useful and clear.. happy vaping.. That's a lot of amazing info, but I'm sure its irelevant, I vape it in Temp Ni mode which I was under the impression if you're in that you can mess around with the settings however you want, no? Sorry tha tsounded really rude of me, I was in the heat of an argument then. Are you thinking that I am vaping in bypass mode? If so mate I got no idea where you got that from, I set the watt I want and it stays at that, I tried bypass once by accident, it was horrific and quite honestly don't understand why it exists lol x

Girlfriend showed me this the other day, apparently I had mentioned nearly everything he talks about in this video that day, as somebody who enjoys vaping though, this did make me laugh.. Hope you all enjoy.
**WARNING: There is swearing in this video, and just to say I definatley did not mention anything to do with putting it up my butt, incase you are all wondering**

I will be waiting on some new coils when somebody replies to my post about the difference between 0.2 coils (which I am currently smoking) and 0.25 coils The difference is 0.05ohm Ok I was asking for that haha

I think rule of thumb is the higher the ohm reading of the coil, the lower wattage setting you need to go on your mod. With a 1ohm coil at 75watts you might need a new set of lungs I've occasionally swapped atties and forgot to change the wattage......... quite often going from atlantis tanks to nautilus, and a 1.8ohm nautilus coil at 30+watts is no laughing matter....... not for me anyway lol Haha ok that makes sense. Seems daft that they have increased max watt to 75 yet the coils they make are max 60 watt.. Whats the point in increasing the max temp? lol Oh and that bit about it being no laughing matter really made me laugh haha

Ahh ok that explains it, crazy how much updating the software changes it, im vaping on 22.9w and 530f with this new firmware and it tastes lovely, with the 1.2 firmware I was on before, 22w produced like no vapour what so ever, really old firmware though I guess, bound to be better and different now. Thanks mate x

All ordered, thanks for that. Just out of interest, what are these all about, www.joyetech.co.uk/accessories/evic-vtc-mini/ego-one-cl-10ohm-atomizer-heads-x-5#.Vj0fnZBFDxAWould they be better for vaping at max temp and 75w? Not that I would do that, I used to vape mostly around 50-60w and 500f temp, but with the new firmware, If I do 600f and 75w it tastes burnt, but the Ni coils say max 60w so that explains that. With the new firmware, 20w and 500f seems just as good at 600f and 60w on the 1.2 firmware.. very strange Update: Ok weird, with this new firmware, I just put it on 60w and 600f which used to taste fine, and it tasted burnt.. Loads more powerful than it used to be, I am so confused, surely it should be the same?
