I can offer my experience.

Don't overdo it! That's the main point.

Roll your wick and run it through the flames, heat up each bit till it changes colour to blue steel, I find it better to heat each bit to cherry red, then stop.
Your wick is now oxidised, it's that simple.

Then cover it with juice and apply a flame, this will burn off the juice, do this twice, the mesh should now suck up juice when you apply it (it should do it the 2nd time you apply juice).

It's so simple and greatly made overcomplicated by some.

Your coil is a bit different.

Once your coil is made, turn your VV device to the lowest setting and try it with a short burst, you may have a hotspot. Tighten or loosen the offending bit (it's usually at one end, so you can change the screw holding it) until it's better, then add juice and vape gradually, raising the voltage when it's bedded in.

It's not brain surgery, but it can be annoying when things go wrong. Remember, low voltage to start with and short bursts of power, adding juice to the hot spot can help.

Don't overcook the mesh when you are oxidising it and don't quench it.
