This is a thank you post with an apology,a (hopefully) useful tip and a question. When I discovered this forum I thought many of you were a little obsessive and sadly afflicted with "shinyitis" but I did find much useful reading in your strange conversations. And this is the thank you, many of you have helped me by answering questions that I hadn't asked (that includes those of you that asked the questions in the first place - keep asking stupid questions, it help those of us who are too stupid to ask!) And now the apology: I apologise for thinking you were obsessive and sadly afflicted with shinyitis. I speak as one who is currently vaping on a Protank3 with a custom drip tip and home build cotton wicked coils powered by a Vamo (currently waiting for more shiny vape mail from China…) The tip: This is for those of you who have ever experienced the discomfort of holding hot tweezers when following Super-Shiny 's excelent coil building guide. Of all the vape related purchases I've made, the couple of quid I spent on insulated reverse action tweezers were the best. They've got fibre blocks that protect your tender fingers from the heat and the reverse action (squeeze to open, release to grip) means you don’t have to apply pressure when things are getting hot - can't find a link but a search for insulated tweezers on ebay should find them. The question: Now I'm rebuilding my protank heads I'd like to know if anyone supplies the insulating tube/grommet thing that separates the wires. I've noticed that mine are getting scorched and one has started to split.

Thanks all. With a better understanding of batteries thanks to Brambles and what keepitgoin and boyofford have said about the MVP I think that's the direction I'm heading. I'm sure I'll get over the shape thing. It's battery life and a consistent vape I'm after. Interesting bit of background from markm too.

I think you've got the answer there Perpetua . My problem is that I can make anything apart from decisions. That and the fact that I lied about being able to make anything.

You're right keepitgoin the figures don't lie. It's the shape that puts me off but it offers much better longevity that the ego options. I've got a horrible feeling I'm going to end up getting an MVP in the long run anyway so perhaps it would be better to bite the bullet and get one now.

More than a bit helpful Brambles there's more to batteries than I realised. You've opened my eyes and cleared up my confusion about the 3.7 and 4.2 ratings Thanks

I wanted a pipe and after a little browsing around I got a cartomiser e-pipe from Liberro. If it wasn't for the fact that it immediately got me off the roll ups I'd probably call that a mistake but within a week I realised I was going to need something where I could see the juice level or develop a liking for the taste of burnt cartomiser wadding.
Another e-pipe will have to wait until I have more spare cash (lol) but I expect something like the Kamry K1000 with an Aerotank will be on my shopping list soon. In the meantime I went for a cheap ego starter kit.
Unfortunately that wasn't to be end to my immediate to my spending. I don't know if it's just the cheap CE4's that came with the kit or a feature of all top coil tanks but I found it was running too hot for my liking. To get my mouth away from the coil I tried two approaches: a bottom coil tank (Kanger T3S) and a longer drip tip. Both approaches worked but I prefer the long drip tip.
So I've solved the first problem but I'm finding new issues to throw cash at.
I'm getting fed up with having to keep charging the little 650mAh jobs. If cash was no problem and I liked the box shape it would be seem to be a no-brainer to go for an iTaste MVP, but cash is an issue and I don't like the shape so I'm looking for a better ego stick battery.
Should I go for a variable voltage or a couple of more inexpensive fixed? I understand the idea behind vv but, to be frank, I'm not unhappy with the taste or vapour from what I've got at the moment so I'm thinking if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Variable voltage can wait until I develop shinyitis and start craving mods. If I eventually go back to a better pipe I haven't seen one that has vv anyway, so why bother?
I've noticed that all fixed voltage batteries are not equal as I've seen some rated at 3.7v and others at 4.2v. I don't know what I'm using at the moment but they're labelled as VR-1 and I got them from vapour-room.co.uk - anyone know what they're likely to be pushing out?
Cheap isn't necessarily good value but the best prices I've found so far are £11.95 rated at 3.7v from egocigsuk.com or £11.50 rated at 4.2v from hightectrading.co.uk
Recommendations for good quality fixed voltage 1300mAh batteries (or better?) anyone? (UK only, don't want to wait too long).

First, focus on the positives and banish all thoughts of reverting to the roll ups from your mind.
Second, ignore the talk of custards and evods unless you want to turn this from a way to stop smoking into a hobby.
I'm new to this (1 month) so I'm probably not the one to give you advice but it sounds like you've got a similar set up to mine (a couple of batteries and a handful of the screwy on things). I've already bought a slightly more flashy screwy on thing than the cheap disposables that came with my batteries and have noticed the difference.
I suspect buying a better screwy on thing with replaceable coils will work out cheaper in the long run and the larger tank means less faffing about with refills. For what its worth I've bought a Kanger T3S but I'm not recommending that - only had it a day, so it's too soon to say - someone with more experience might be able to point you in the right direction.
The only other upgrade I'd think about at this stage is a better battery (or two). I've been eyeing up the ones with twisty bottoms so you can tweak the power going to heat the juice in your screwy on thing. Perhaps get one of these and keep the ones you got from the market as back ups. Personally I wouldn't buy one from the market - find a recommended supplier on here if you can buy online
If you want to turn this from a way to stop smoking into a hobby then you're going to have to find out about custards and evods. Until then keep it simple (maybe a better battery and a better screwy on thing), focus on the positives and keep off the roll ups.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.
In short order I've gone from an epipe to a cheap ego kit and just this morning the postie handed me a Kanger T3s. If I'd found you guys sooner I might have saved some money but I don't regret a penny because, from the moment I fired up the pipe, I knew I'd found a substitute for the roll ups.
I've put a 2.2ohm head into the T3s and (for the moment) I think I can stop spending money and start enjoying...
My handle? It came from the day someone was complaining about the guy he was sitting next to in the canteen who he described as "a bit of an elbows eater" and El Bozeeta was born...

Thanks for the welcomes. My only regret so far is not finding this forum before I started shelling out my hard-earned. Not that I've made many mistakes, just haven't quite hit the sweet spot yet. I suspect I'll have some fun and learning to do before I get there.

Who knew how complicated this would be. It all used to be so simple; half an ounce of baccy, a pack of rizlas and maybe a box of matches and I was done.
Now I've got to consider voltage, ohms, wattage, style of drip tip, bottom, top, dual or single coil, variable voltage or regulated wattage, ego or 501, pipe, carto or clearo, and then I've got to pick a flavour from the myriad available and then decide on PG/VG mix, not forgetting the nicotine strength. And now I've found out that I have to steep (or homogenize) the juice before I can use it.
My head's spinning faster than the bottom of my battery and I've probably spent more in the last couple of months than I would have if I'd been chain smoking 24/7 but there's no way I'm going back to the roll ups.
Chalk up another convert to the fold.
