Katherine has been in touch. She says she'll provide some ecigs free of charge ... so that's sorted.

Ok Chrissie. When I hear back from Katherine I'll report back here. I don't know when she'll get the message though so we'll have to play it by ear.

Hi folks. Sorry I've missed this conversation, I thought I had notifications turned on. Thanks for the message Chrissie. I don't know if they're allowed to accept gifts - might be seen as a bribe, nor do I know if security will allow something like that to be passed through. But, it's definitely worth a try - no harm in that. One of the peeps delivering the petition - Katherine Devlin will be able to bring some disposables with her I think, she took some to the IHRA conference and made a bit of a splash there. vapersnetwork.org/Kate/Diary%20of%20a%20Delegate.pdfI'll write to her now and see if she can oblige.

That would be great Lilac, some vaper representatives would really help. I'd be grateful if anybody intending to go would either check in at the Facebook group or let me know. If there's not a lot of people going I think the organiser might cancel rather than risk looking like there's not much support. While I'm here, off topic but will do .... Please write to Cleggy www.libdems.org.uk/contact.aspxTell him what you think of the smoking ban (should it be properly reviewed and based on air quality evidence for eg). Plus, please tell him that the Misuse of Drugs Act should be reviewed - prohibition doesn't work, costs a fortune and is bad for health. Recreational drugs (including nicotine) should be regulated appropriately according to level of risk. You might also consider asking for a Drugs Agency to be set up so that recreational drugs don't get sidetracked into the medical system and grabbed by the pharmaceutical industry.

I know, it is strange. It seems to be a move to turn people into dependants of the state so we can be controlled and pushed around and they can justify their jobs. The cost is loss of self-determination and distorted ideas about what should motivate people to look after themselves. There's a scheme in the US now to pay drug users to be sterilised ... very strange. Sorry, I think that link in my last post might not work, the details are here instead - vapersnetwork.org/node/45

I hope so too Chrissie. Here are some action points that folks might be able to help with. ukvapers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=75&d=1274796005Please remember that we're victims of the cessation scam as much as smokers, they want to steal our nicotine to make it look like they're good at their jobs. It's important that this expensive industry, which is probably no more effective than unaided cessation, is held to account.

Please attend this demo if you can get to Glasgow on 15 June. This conference is an outrageous waste of money to promote the medical nicotine industry ... while essential NHS services are being cut back. www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=121514057879420Peaceful Demonstration against Smoking Cessation Conference 'The UK National Smoking Cessation Conference is the world's largest gathering of stop smoking practitioners, policy makers and researchers. ... All patient groups are covered, including pregnant smokers, young people, those with mental health problems, in secure environments, and hard to reach groups. Treatment modalities are also comprehensively addressed with presentations describing the state of the art on new medications, forthcoming treatments (like the nicotine vaccine), as well as researchers and practitioners presenting the latest on optimising existing treatments that are known to be effective, such as Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), with results of work looking at combining products and ‘pre-loading’ prior to quitting. Although smoking cessation is the main focus of the conference, tobacco control measures such as smoke free public places and harm reduction are also discussed, particularly in relation to how they impact on services helping people to stop smoking.' In other words – the SMOKING CESSATION INDUSTRY holds its annual conference on this day. Nearly 500 highly paid health service personnel will spend up to two days sharing ideas on extending the smoking cessation market. Conference programme www.uknscc.org/2010_UKNSCC/programme.htmlWHY DOES THIS ACTIVITY GET PUBLIC SUBSIDY WHEN FRONTLINE HEALTH SERVICES ARE ON THE LINE? DEMONSTRATE PEACEFULLY OUTSIDE THE RADISSON HOTEL, ARGYLE STREET, GLASGOW G2 8DL during the closing hours of the conference on 15 June Tuesday, 15 June 2010 at 16:00 Radisson Hotel, 301 Argyle St, Glasgow

I won't be going either Chrissie but all we need is for someone to hand the petition over. Hopefully we'll get to see some pics.
Thanks Scylla x

The UK petition to the Prime Minister is to be delivered at 1pm on Wednesday 2nd June, the day the government consultation on regulation of nicotine containing products closes. Please let me know if you will be attending. Six representatives will be allowed to deliver the petition to the door of No 10, two places have been claimed, the first four people to contact me get the remaining places. kate@vapersnetwork.org After the petition is delivered there will be a social get-together, so even if you're not one of the six to get to the door, you might have a bit of a laugh if you're in the area and you come along. vapersnetwork.org/sites/default/files/Downing%20Street%20Petition%20Form.doc

Yeah, nicotine is psychoactive and does something with dopamine. Apparently over 60% of people with schizophrenia smoke and it's theorised that's to self medicate. Taking away someone's drugs when they are most vulnerable is definitely cruel. When you know how hard it is to quit normally and then imagine that state being added to an already off the planet condition then it's hard to see how that can be a helpful situation that promotes recovery.
In Utah people in mental health facilities aren't allowed to vape either. Must be just an easy target to bully and control.

Thanks for replying Lynda, I'm really hoping to hear opinions such as yours.
There's somebody bringing a case at the moment for being denied tobacco and NRT in a prison under Human Rights laws but I don't know the details. Something about being denied the drug he's addicted to. Might we argue that we're being denied clean and effective methods of delivery for our addictions?

I'm just waiting for bank account details and then will launch an appeal to help support vaper delegates for this.
We really need to be represented, this is an important event.
