Ah, he'd said he had a faulty one but I didn't realise it was quite so exactly the same problem, that's really interesting, cheers charliehorse. That makes me more inclined to try and arrange a replacement, TBH, but I think I'll maybe wait till the VTC mini arrives.

it drove me nuts and i ended up with a replacement that passed the dry burn test 1st time TallPaul70the easy way to test is to have 2 of the same mods and try the same atty/build on both i only really knew mine was faulty because i have another tc mod that is known to work ie burns dry cotton at about 430 so if you know anybody local to you that has a tc mod see if they will let you try a dry burn test ,rem it dont have to be a dripper you can just use a tank thats not fully built other than that i do drive so if you get really stuck give me a pm and we can sort summut out Ah, you're a top man, decoy, cheers. Reading through your previous thread and what you've said here it does seem to be exactly the same as what twisted your head and has been twisting mine now. I've got an X Cube II as well, and the temp control 'seems' to be working on that, at least the screen is showing it activating while I'm vaping, but when I tried the dry burn test with that, I couldn't get the cotton to scorch even at 600F... I haven't gone back to think about that yet, just been trying to work out the Sig. Anyhow, I've got an eVic VTC mini on the way that should arrive any day so as long as that works I'll be able to use it to double check everything, but based on you having the same problems I'm more inclined to try and send the bugger back and get a replacement, there must be a faulty batch or something, and even though the TC works with juice now there's no guarantee that will continue.

In the video as well as having it on full wattage and 400 F, the cotton he uses is bone dry so it's a mystery why yours only seems to work with juice in it. Been reading up a lot on TC myself recently and I notice people really recommend securing the (nickel) wire under the screw head rather than in the post holes. Other than that I'm at a loss. Got a VTC mini on the way myself as well so I'm also hoping it behaves itself Yeah I've used the screw heads rather than post holes on the other atties I've tried building on (Lemo 2 and TFV4), but with the Bellus the posts are quite high and I'm not sure it'd really work, bit leggy... Thanks anyway mate, it's a total bloody mystery to me, and I don't know enough to know what I might be missing. But my basic thought is, leaving aside functionality when actually vaping, all that should have to happen here is that the resistance needs to be high enough for the mod (which it is) and locked in at room temperature to give a starting point (yep), the coil not touching the deck anywhere stupid to cause a short (all good). Then the mod should be able to detect the resistance change as the temperature changes and adjust to regulate. If it's doing that when fully built and juiced why should the same not apply when dry... the temperature is still changing (and so the resistance)... I suppose it could be happening quicker when dry and without the airflow caused by vaping, but I'd doubt that would be significant enough to prevent the chip from keeping track... Nah, I'm clueless It clearly doesn't happen in all cases, the vid you posted shows that, so effectively my mod is faulty, but only if I try to test it, not when I actually use it. My only real concern is that if I run a tank dry I'm going to end up dry hitting, not a huge issue but removing one of the benefits of TC. Ever wish you'd never started something?

That Bellus is weird What`s that big hole for? The big hole on the other side of the build deck? There's an adapter that you stick on that side when you just use a single coil, it attaches into that hole and basically blocks off the juice channels on that side and essentially fills the whole space on that side of the atty where the second coil would normally be. The Goblin Mini has the same type of adapter, it seems to be a Youde thing. Overall, I'm really impressed with the Bellus, it's a nice tank. It's just physics that's p*ssing me off

If it is working then if you progressively reduce the temp after a while each reduction will reduce the amount of vapour, don't assume it will be noticeable at medium and higher temps though. Cheers VapingBad, there's a big difference in vapour production between 300F and 420F, so guess that confirms it's working OK. Just no idea why not when no juice in, but maybe I should just let that go

Hi charliehorse, the watts have been set around 25-30, and even at that, without any juice in then it's just not activating the temp control. Another good suggestion though, mate, cheers I've just whacked a new build on the TFV4, didn't try a scorch test just wicked it, juiced it and put it on with a minimal amount of juice in the tank in case it didn't work... vaping absolutely fine, voltage is modulating so the temp control seems to be kicking in and I have no idea what's going on The only conclusion I can draw is that it will only work with juice in. I've seen youtube vids of scorch tests being done with this mod so it doesn't seem to be an inherent problem, but on the other hand if it's working in 'normal' circumstances I don't think I could send it back for a replacement? Or, in fact, whether that's necessary, it's working but I'm a bit worried that it's not working how it should. I tell you, I'm looking forward to my eVic VTC Mini turning up (hopefully any day), I just hope that behaves in a predictable manner

I dont know what atty that is, but is there only one air hole? The coil should be just above it if there is just the one hole. The coil does look very close to the chassis. It's a Bellus robby, there are no air holes in the build deck, the airflow is direct in through the side of the tank once this part plugs into the bottom (I may not have explained that very well!). I've found a picture which may help: The hole on the other side is where the single coil adapter plugs in to close off the juice and air flow on the other side, like a Goblin Mini if you've got one of them? Just to further confuse matters, I've just tried a scorch test using the TFV4 that I was vaping with last night... with juice in the tank last night the temperature control was definitely working, with the same coil today, just with cotton in, it's not kicking in again, the voltage isn't modulating and the cotton is scorching at temperature settings far below what it should. I've been using this Sig all day with a Lemo 2 coiled with nickel, and the TC has definitely been working. So, works with juice in, doesn't without. That's the only conclusion I'm able to draw at the moment. Bloody physics!

What is the resistance of the coil ? TallPaul70. I dont think it can be anything to do with the post holes if you are getting totally opposite results on two different mods. Can you take any pics of the atty and coil fitted? Right, pictures... I don't know if they're very illuminating. The coils are definitely not in contact with the atty anywhere but the post holes, there's no short. Other than that, I'm totally out of my depth, no idea Cheers for the offer decoy, that's really good of you, I'm an hour or so away from Colne, but if I really can't get to the bottom of this I might take you up on it. What's properly confusing though is that the mod is definitely working with the other atties I built a few days ago, and they were far ropier builds What I'm going to do now that one of those is empty is do a cotton scorch test with that, see what happens with that... the TC was DEFINITELY working with that last night so if it doesn't behave today then... well, I've no idea, but I'll be very confused

Hi robby, 0.12 ohms, 8 wraps of 0.28mm nickel, 2.5 ID. Tried taking a photo but can't suppress the flash on my stoopid phone, I'll try and stick one on after work tomorrow.

Absolutely charliehorse, I appreciate the suggestion, I'm totally in the dark here and wondering if I'm just trying to run before I can walk Well, I've wrapped another coil and fitted it, again using the post holes but trying to be careful not to overtighten the screws... exact same thing, TC just not kicking in. I'm clearly doing something wrong 'cause the mod seems to be doing what I'd expect (modulating the voltage) with the TFV4, so reckon I'm off to see if I can find any tips for nickel builds on the Bellus on youtube.

Stop the clock, think I've identified the problem... I've just put my TFV4 on the Sig and gone for a vape, that has the nickel coil in from my first experiments the other day and when I'm firing that the voltage is modulating.
So, it must be the build, even though it looks fine to me, there must be something wrong... I used the post holes, so maybe I've screwed it in too tight or something?
I'm going to start again and see what happens.

Sorry, 212F is correct charliehorse, that's my rubbish short-term memory apparently, I tried the Sig 1st then the X Cube, then spent 10 minutes being confused It was definitely in Fahrenheit, I whacked it down low, it was probably 220F as if I'd tried to go down to 200 it would have flicked over to Centigrade and I would have noticed.

Hi VapingBad, yes, it was room temperature when checked on both. The X Cube I made sure it recognised it as a new coil and read the resistance (it dones't specifically ask you to fix it but I presume that's what happens on the original read in TC mode), the Sig you manually lock it in and I did. The X Cube is showing the TC kicking in, but just seem over active if it won't scorch at 600F. The Sig doesn't actively update with temperature or show it activated, but the voltage readout gets to a certain point and stays there, isn't showing any modulation that would indicate TC is active.
