I have a little problem, I just went into my garden to find a live chick sitting there ( no doubt brought back by Sooty).
This chick seems to be very big with a big beak. I don't have a clue what to do with it. I can get a picture if needed.
Any advice happily received.

As long as it's not obviously injured Malibu I'd leave it a while, keep the cat away, and it's parent may well come find it. Picking it up, moving it etc may just be too much shock for it

I am quite partial to a nice ginger and black bean marinade at the moment, some noodles and a few stir fried seasonal vegetables should go nicely with it. On the other hand you could phone the RSPCA and ask their advice.

It seems to be ok, it's on a tea towel on the garden table at the moment, it's as big as a fully grown bird. Sooty hasnt been home yet today, I'll watch out for him so when he does I can bring him in and lock the cat flap. In the meantime I'll phone the vets, hell mum must be big !

Well I hope not I just rang the vets and she said Mum & Dad are probably watching and to put him under the hedge and they may come and feed him. So off to move the chicken wire from under the hedge ,off find a cardboard box to put him in under the hedge. Good advice oneday. Thankyou I'll still have to try and keep Sooty in though, he makes me some work !

Maybe a wood pigeon. I wouldn't put anything man made near it. Like the very said, in a nearby bush. Hopefully its call will start and parents will come to its aid.

Ok it's under the hedge ( no box) or anything. If wood pigeons are the ones that sound part owl part Dove ( like a deep Coo) then we have them in the tree that overhangs the garden.

Ohhhhh blimey. Be mindfull theres a chance that the parents may have abandoned it already. The crows haven't tried to steal and then eat it as its too young. Thats a difficult call, but putting a young chick in a hedge that's that young I'm unsure would help its survival or assist its parents. I would consider looking for the nest above and returning it to the nest if it was safe to do so. However the parents may abandon it anyway? If your gonna leave it in the hedge I wouldn't do so over night personally. But its up to you.

I'm really at a loss what to do, it's still there. Sooty is home but luckily enough has taken his sleeping place in the front garden under that hedge. ( Chick is in back garden)
I think you are right but am at a loss what to do with it.
It's a very large council tree outside the house. Very old. There is no chance of returning it.

Aw poor little thing, the RSPCA are very good if you call them, they will come out pretty quickly too if necessary. They came for a duck in my friend's marina that had fishing line wrapped around its beak.

Well I went to RSPCA site and it basically said to take it to the vet, the vet told me to do this. Now its in a lidless box on a nice old T shirt, with a Tea towel loosely over the top of the box. In the dining room with the door shut.
So back to square 1 , I have a little chick here that I'm clueless about and a bird/mouse loving cat.
I have googled, they are lactose intolerant, ready brek and water etc........with a syringe. I just don't have the time for this.
I'm out at work by 5.30 am
If it's still with me tomorrow, I will talk to daughter.
