Well, looky here, as of tomorrow, I'll have been vaping for 6 months. I've been posting on this forum for a while now, and I've discussed a lot of things to do with vaping, but I've never really said anything at all about my progress in terms of giving up the nasties. So I thought I might as well write a little post about that, in honour of hitting the 6 month mark. The amazing thing is, it's been easy. I mean really, really, stupidly easy. So ridiculously easy, in fact, that I've actually been reluctant to mention it before now, because I was worried that those of you who still struggle with cravings for nasties might find me smug and annoying for finding it sooooooo frickin' easy. (<- smug and annoying smiley) And the odd thing is, it's not like I had any sort of resolute or determined plan to quit the nasties. Sure, I wanted to quit. But I've always struggled and failed to do so in the past, and I had no reason to think that things would work out differently this time. I just figured that I would give vaping a go, purely on the offchance that I might find it satisfying as an alternative to smoking. I had absolutely no expectations that I'd succeed. I did not do anything drastic like throw away all my tobacco, etc. I was fully expecting to carry on smoking while attempting to get used to vaping. In the first couple of weeks, I did give in to temptation and smoked a couple of rollies. One was at the end of my first full day of vaping, when I had a strong craving for inhaling real smoke in my lungs. I still hadn't got used to the correct way of inhaling vapour (and I also hadn't discovered direct dripping) so I was still finding it slightly less satisfying than smoking. The second rollie was a week or so later, during a particularly stressful day when my gf was forced to re-apply for her own job and did not get it. (Thankfully she's ended up in a better job now, but at the time it was a worrying turn of events and one of those 'must have a cig' moments.) There were three other occasions in the following couple of weeks where I went out for the evening and ended up smoking cigs offered to me by other people. In total, I think this came to about 8 cigs. The thing is, this wasn't due to craving a real smoke. It was more due to being drunk and too lazy to mess around with vaping gear (I'd started dripping by this point) while trying to keep up with a group of people moving from pub to pub in a busy town centre at night time. Also: I didn't actually enjoy the cigs that much. The last few cigs I smoked made me realise that I no longer find smoking more satisfying or enjoyable than vaping. In fact, the opposite is now true. Vaping satisfies me more, and I find it more enjoyable. And that's it. Apart from those 10 individual smokes in the first few weeks, I've stuck to vaping. I even had one day where I'd only brought 2 atties with me, and they both failed at around 9am shortly after I started work. I briefly considered going to buy a small pack of tobacco, but in the end I didn't see the point of wasting money on something I no longer enjoy and would only use a small amount of. So I just gritted my teeth and rode out the rest of the day and vaped when I got home. So there you go. It's all been easy peasy. How smug am I? ( Please don't hate me. ) Needless to say, my journey along the Road to Vapeville has been greatly assisted by lots of good advice from members of this forum. I probably can't recall everyone who's offered me advice, but at the risk of offending those I'm forgetting about, I'd still like to say thanks to the following people who I can remember offering me very useful answers to specific questions: Chrissie, Leftfield, Batty, Karma, Perpy, Oneday, Blakey, Macca, ian, DiscoDes, Gordy.

Great post kuro, and I doubt that anyone will find it smug - many of us have found the same ridiculously easy transition. Vape On

Cheers, BC. (Didn't realise you were only 3 months into vaping. I assumed you were more of an 'old hand' at it. I guess I need to stop looking at post counts to estimate how long someone's been vaping! ) [EDIT: and cheers also, oneday, your post snuck in while I was typing.]

this time I'm gonna sail through the three month mark.... Here's hoping you succeed. Good luck! (btw, that 'fingers crossed' smiley is quite freaky and disturbing when you actually look at it. )

Congrats Kuro, that's great I completely understand where you're coming from with regards to others thinking you're being smug, cos I've only had 1 nasty since I started vaping.....It was about a week in, and it was absolutely disgusting #icon_rofl# It was enough to trigger something in my brain to not even think about, or crave, one since #icon_dance# As you and Beauty have said, it's been ridiculously easy....but I do feel a little guilty about saying it lol

After all you've been through since you started vaping GJ, and you've stuck with it without resorting to the nasties, your 3 month mark will be a breeze, I'm positive You've done brilliantly

Well done mate, that's brilliant going looking forward to when I finally get 6 months under my belt, so far I did the first 3 weeks on half ciggies from 13 down to between 6 & 7 then cut it completely just over 5 weeks ago, my sig is slightly cheeky but it's for me more than anything shows me just how many ciggies i really would have smoked! grats beauty as well on 3 months and GJ i reckon you will fly past that 6 month mark without issue.. isn't it nice being smug lol, especially as quitting and failing smoking normally makes you feel crap, it's the best two fingers up to tobacco, the brands and the tax man ;-)
