That's very true Perp, one of our old dogs we rescued when he was 12, he had been at the home for 3 years, nobody would take him because of his age and he had Kennel Cough that wouldn't clear up. We took him and he lived with us for about 2 years before he died, but at least he had a couple of happy years

They have some real crackers don't they Karma. Awww Ellen, I'm so pleased you were able to give your lad a loving and happy couple of years. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest to have an older dog must admit.

my mum got a little jack russell bitch from the dogs home recently, and she's a neurotic little weirdo of a thing...but also a 'character'. and those inverted commas aren't meant to be derivative. i like my dogs to have personalities, and not to be little stepford mutts
though saying that.....
my dog (a staff) is also a character, and i love her to pieces, to microscopic pieces of pieces, and yet, when i see a person walking their well behaved, well trained dog and it's walking like a dream, and there's me with small callouses on my palm from walking the moron/train hybrid that is my dog, i do get jealous......but not enough to regret buying her in the first place. the dog whisperer can kiss my arse. she aint a little sub pack dog, she's my furry little daughter.....i prefer her to most people....and i recently got two kittens and she thinks she's their mum...awwwww..
however.....after her i will probably never get a staff again....she's brill with kittens and people, but, since being attacked by another staff at the age of 2, she's now pure evil with other dogs.....it's tough having to deal with a dog who wants to fight any other dog she sees....i was brought up with parents who bred pitbulls....same thing.....great with people, awful with other dogs...
and next time, it will be a labrador or a beagle....
but if we're talking toy dogs, shitzhus are sweet little teddybears, and toy yorkshires are quite lovely too....
have you not considered travelling a bit to get the pup you want?
have you not considered the micro-pig?

Aww, I'd have Max and Sky from Holly Hedge if I could Perpy, so sad. It would be a bit confusing with 2 Max's though. ??? Problem is with our Max, he thinks he's the only dog in the world and he doesn't like other dogs. He loves being outside and watching the world go by when one of us is out there, but we have to keep him tied up as a lot of people walk their dogs around here and if he sees one, he's after it like a rocket and world war 3 breaks out. He doesn't mind though, he'd rather be out there tied up than indoors. He's a strange one. If we put water down for him, he won't drink until he gets indoors, no matter how hot it is outside, it's like he's on constant guard from other dogs, very possessive, but he loves people!

Booblay, my dog is now aggressive to some other dogs since he was attacked years ago. I do feel for you, walkies can be a tad difficult at times I'm lucky that he does get on with my friends' dogs and our neighbours dog

Try some vets in your area. We got our border collie from our vet. He had been handed in to be destroyed because his previous owner couldn't handle him! ??? > Probably because he hadn't been neutered. The vet nurse fostered him for a couple of months, neutered him and jagged him up to date. He was a bit of a handful but with a lot of time and patience, a year later he's a right cracker We didn't pay a penny for him, she even changed the chip information for free too.

Rescued our staffie cross from a local rescue centre £85 which included neuter and all jabs and microchip . That was about 5 or 6 years ago , she wouldn't come near me for about 6 months ( we assumed she had been beaten by a bloke ) now I can't get any peace lol , she loves people and children although she can be a bit giddy and over bearing with kids. Walkies used to be a nightmare , she wants to fight any dog she sees no matter how big , a friend suggested getting a gentle leader collar . It's made a massive difference I now have 2 arms of the same length It doesn't stop her wanting to fight but we have a lot more control over her
