Off the top of my head, i think nocolites have a 510 connection, can anyone confirm this?
If so then any upgrade you buy that has a 510 connection will be compatible with the cartos you already have!
How do you find the battery life on the nicolites? Would you consider a slightly bigger e-cig to gain longer between charges?

Yup nicolites is 510 threaded, but the battery life is very short, would recommended going for a bigger battery as Karma is suggesting

Elaine, you would do so much better if you upgraded to a Riva or eGo

IMO, If i were you, i will start with buying 1 ego twist battery and some BOGE cartomisers. It will save a lot of money. I wasted more than 70 pounds before i found this effective cheap set up. You can not go wrong with them for sure

Elaine, the experienced vapers on this forum tend to recommend stuff which doesn't look or feel a lot like a cigarette. That gear is doubtless very good but don't feel you have to use it if you feel more comfortable with what is known here as a cig-a-like. You can still get a very good vaping experience - lots better than the nicolite. It'll cost you more than the big battery stuff, but it'll still be a heck of a lot cheaper than smoking. You'll need to carry spares with you, and you'll be recharging batteries a lot, which wears them out - hence the cost.
imo the most important thing is to find one or more eliquids that you like. Get a variety and see. You don't have stick to one supplier for them.
I would also suggest getting a kit with atomisers as well as cartomisers. Using just carts without refilling them costs a lot more, and filling for an atomiser is easier than filling a cart; but also the vaping experience tends to be a bit different, and some people (including me) find that if they vape a lot on a cart it gives them a sore throat.
VapeEscape is a well respected supplier. If you do decide to stick with a cig-a-like then their Joyce 510 starter kit looks good to me. They seem to like black batteries with blue LEDs. Looks less like a cigarette than your nicolite but has the advantage that people don't think you are smoking.
Any questions you've got, just ask - there are people on this forum who know just about everything (lots more than me), and really do want to help.
