Hi, newbie advice on prefilled v. juice pls

I bought a skycig kit for a song using a code from another forum, and I'm now just over a month smoke free:) I know that Skycig (and indeed all cig a likes) get a hard time from you more experienced guys on this forum, but for me its actually working really well, so I can't knock it. I've not smoked even one since the day it arrived in the post!

My ultimate aim is to give up inicotine completely, so I am going to have to switch to something different shortly. I'm currently using the 6mg skycig cartridges, which is the lowest they go.

I've ordered myself some 3mg juice from pixie juice and now I'm wondering about the best way to vape it. Originally I was going to try refilling my empty skycig cartridges, but now I'm wondering whether that's the best idea or not? I've fiddled around with a needle, and have taken one apart etc, but it seems a bit of a faff tbh.

I don't particularly want to buy a whole new system, as my aim is to cut down and eventually stop, but I'd be happy buying refillable cartridges if necessary. Does anyone know the best, easiest to refill cartridges that would work with my skycig?

You should be able to refill your skycig cartomisers by just removing the mouth piece bung & dripping juice into the wadding inside. Skycigs have a 510 thread on them so any 510 SR (Standard Resistance) cartomisers can be used with them. For instance -

Is there any advantage to using those boges rather than refilling the skycig ones? It seems that the process would be the same?

Also, what is a drip tip? and what is the best way to accurately drip onto the wadding inside the cartridge - perhaps a pipette or a bottle with a needle tip?

Hi Jody,
You will get a nicer Vape if you use empty cartridges. If you refill skycig ones you will have a mix of two flavours, which may work great and may not bother you at all. That really is up to you.

There are a couples of different methods for filling Boge cartomisers, for me I find dripping into the filler the best.

But if you click on the link above that Chrissie provided there is a video on that page showing how to fill one.

A drip tip is the bit you puff on, you put it into the top of the cartomiser.

A drip tip is partly cosmetic and partly comfort, you don't actually need one but it finishes the end off nicely and you can buy all sorts of designs and colous, you can "bling" up your Ecig!

Hi, sorry,yet more questions, must sound like such a dweeb!

Would I always have to use the condom method for a first fill? Or can I just "top off" (I think that's the correct term for dripping) until the wadding is soaked? And the other thing is that in the vid he says that a refilled boge lasts him 2 hours. Currently a skycig carto is lasting me 2 days ???, so surely its going to be a lot of hard work, not to mention a lot more expensive if I switch from the prefilled to the liquid. I thought the opposite was meant to be the case ??? It all seems very complicated to me right now...

A newly filled carto will last you as long as your current ones do, if not longer. I use cartos and with topping them up, I can get one to last me around a week before the taste and draw drops off to almost nothing.

I think when the guy says his lasts a couple of hours he means that the flavour is stronger and he gets a better draw on it in those 2 hours.

If you're really trying to save money you can actually clean them and re-use them by slow boiling them in a pan of clean water for around 15mins although it takes an age as you may have to re-boil them 6-8 times then dry them overnight, whereas you can pick up 5 boges Standard resistance for around £6.

You don't "need" a drip tip, they just make it easier than prying off the white cap when you want to top them up. To do this I just use the tip of a fork and they just pop off.

The first time I use a new cartomiser I use the condom method and then after that you can just top them off.

I top mine up just dripping the juice straight from the bottle on to the white filler inside drop by drop on a bit of kitchen paper, just try not to get the juice down the hole in the middle (you can blow this out anyway so don't worry too much about it). After I've topped it up (It'll start dripping through the carto on to the paper) I turn it over and blow through it from the threaded end to clear any bits that went down the tube, wipe the thread of any stray juice and pop the lid back on (or put a drip tip on).

For me it all sounded a bit daunting filling them up and I really couldn't be bothered with it but now it's something I enjoy doing as I know once I've done it is when it'll taste the nicest. Just think your prefilled ones are never going to taste as fresh as a newly filled one at home.

Hi Jody and welcome. I started on the skycig and have since bought quite a few of the bigger battery e-cigs. I do, however, still have the skycig kit and still use it at work. I re-fill the cartos and it is much much cheaper than buying new ones from skycig. It all sounds like a bit of a faff compared to buying a packet of fags, but most of us end up seeing it as a hobby.

Hi, can I ask you for a very simple blow by blow account of how you go about refilling the skycig cartos, and how successful you find it. Also if there's any other kit (eg pipette, needle top bottle, condom if they can be bought separately etc) that you'd recommend. If poss I'd like to continue using the skycig carts that I've got and refilling them, mainly because I'm hoping to be done and dusted and off it all completely in a couple of months, so don't really want to be spending out loads on expensive kit.

I must say, I rate the skycig kit if your intention is to quit. I suspect if you want the best, most enjoyable vaping experience, there's plenty of far superior kits out there, but for my purposes, the skycig is doing fine, and I'm suprised at what a slating it gets online!

Stick the prong of a fork in to that and give it a wiggle pulling up away from the carto and it should pop off to reveal what looks like a small tube surrounded by white cotton wool. Drop some juice into

Spot on. No condom, just pop off the white cap with a fork. Under that you'll find another white bit of plastic like a polo mint sitting on the wadding. Pull that out too. There's no need for any other equipment, just drip your e-liquid drop-by-drop from it's bottle, holding the carto at a slight angle to avoid the centre tube. If the cart is empty you'll get up to 20 drops in there. Pop the polo back in and put the cap on, then vape away on your new, tasty, cheap carto
