I suppose look at the cigs avoided - 150 avoided in 10 days is pretty good going toby Isn't it crazy that our brains are wired to the money side and not the health side....I am exactly the same....a little eye opener for me however was when my grandad passed away they would not but him on a respirator thing because although he had quit he smoked too long for it to work....had he been a non smoker for longer he could have prolonged his life....lots of stories similar to this but when it's your own family I suppose you take more heed.

Without a doubt it was never about the money for me (except in my younger poorer student days) and was all about the health benefits. My dad had a lung cancer scare a couple of years ago. At the time I wasn't smoking but both him and my mum quit straight away after probably 50 years of smoking. Despite this I still went back to smoking due to a few stressful situations in my life, so vaping will quite literally be a life saver for me.

A very interesting number of points, all of which I will mull over for a while and I thank you all for that! I too started with the Skycig system and vaped and smoked for about 6 weeks before going 100% vape. I have since invested in the Vision 1000 kit and added a twist VV, a couple of tanks and a couple of dual cartos. I basically use just 3 juices. A tobacco one (Royals cause they taste British) for during the day, a Cappuccino for the evenings and a Menthol for just before bed. I do try other samples, but I look forward to my "time for a vape" because that means a change of flavour to one of my 3 basics. I am now in my 65th year and apart from those times when I was trying to quit, I have smoked since I was in my teens. I'n not unfamilier with quiting an addictive habit and the pressures that life can put on you to return to it, having quit drinking 26 years ago after struggling with that addiction for quite a long time. However I am picking up lots of very good information here both on this topic and on others and, at the moment, I am very happy and content with my vaping, my equipment and my e-juices. As to money saved. Well I have kept a strict account of every penny spent and saved and I have spent on vaping about one third of what I have saved on fags, but now that I have all the equipment I need and will only be buying juice for a while, that saving will change. (He says until something new and shiney catches my eye) As to whether outside circumstances will ever lead me to lift a fag again, well I am hoping that as I do not intend to quit vaping, I probably have more chance of getting through anything in the future than I would if I stopped smoking and had no alternative system in place.

Well, that's a pretty good response from a good cross section so far and has answered a few questions that I had rumbling around in my mind. The methodology of the way we vape obviously varies from one person to another and the way that they prefer so that's good - choice is always good. It was also interesting to see why people vape which was really what I was after, more of a case of being nosey rather than anything else. For me personally, having just quit from being a very heavy smoker to just vaping then at the moment this is just purely a stop smoking replacement mechanism but I can see this developing into something which will be a direct replacement to smoking without the health issues. Virtually everything is the same except for a few details in the way I vape to simulate my smoking past so I am not surprised at the moment that I vape like I used to smoke, having said that then when I smoked I would pull on a cigarette two, three or even four times before taking it out my mouth to get as much smoke as I could, I would breath out through my nose sometimes to get a better taste so not too unlike the way I vape, plus I would direct inhale too which I have tried with vaping with similar results as to smoking - not too much taste but a great feeling never the less. Anyway, thanks for all the responses people and the time you took out to do so - much appreciated, it all helps me progress through this initial time of vaping. Graham

I have been trying out DiscoDes's "double inhale" today (mentioned above) and it really dries out me throat. Probably better off doing this in the pub where there is much liquid refreshment handy. But it does enhance the flavour a great deal and whilst leaving a lovely tingly feeling in ones nose. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Come this xmas it will be a year since I first started sucking away on a E lite,I have taken things slowly with the vaping compared to some, others I notice are quite happy were they are with their egos,as for the smoking,I gave up for 6 years, when I started again I didn't realize till I look back,I didn't want that rollie in my mouth,I didnt take much of the smoke into my lungs, really the way I smoked when I restarted meant something physiological was happening, but I couldnt quit again, take up smoking again,it hits you harder, that old friend, cut to the chase,I don't feel like creating huge plumes of vapour,I don't care about throat hit,I feel really content with my mini LT and dont feel the need to go buying Provaris, faffing around with DIDs producing a haze of vapour and owning items that drink the juice,I also understand what we all want is a bit different to each other, which makes things interesting and I respect everyone else's different ways.
So really yes a good OP,we are all products in vaping to the way we smoked and will all have our own personal preferences

For me vaping is an alternative nicotine delivery method which is safer than smoking, not smelly and lets me indulge the inhale exhale habit I have perfected over 26 years I don't think I ever liked or enjoyed a single cigarette I smoked, I did it because I had to and over the past few years really resented every rollup I lit up because a tube of rolled up paper and dried leaves had me completely under it's control. Even though I am trying out some flavours I can't see it being an epic search to find the perfect vape. If I vape boring old menthol forever that will be good enough I reckon, and I can't even conceive of going back to smelly ciggies even if all my taste buds fell off tomorrow My habit is being satisfied in a much safer manner than before the flavour is really secondary to me. During my holiday I had a few days where I could not really taste the menthol any more but it didn't bother me at all.......guess we are all different Pam

I love my gadgets, enjoy tinkering, and used to really like smoking. Vaping tick all those boxes for me and is a much heathier alternative to tobacco.
I was a smoker for 17 years and would give up for up to a year or two on a regular basis then hit a crisis and wham, before I knew it I was back to 15 a day. I have only been a vapourer (is that a real word) for six months and I quit tobacco on day one. I really don't like smoking tobacco anymore, and have vaped now through two of my normal "trigger points" without any problem. I do have the occasional real cigarette (in fact I hd one today - I forgot to bring a spare battery and then after an couple of hours an old friend who didnt know i had quit offered me one. It satisfied my craving even though it gave me a headache and made me fel a bit sick - yeew). The way I see it if I have one tobacco cigarette a month it won't do me any long term harm.
Vaping can be whatever you want it to be - for me it has become a bit of an obsession, but I am sooo much heathier (though no wealthier) for it.

A few years back, while visiting a friend, he had a real Hookah Pipe sitting on display. When I got home I looked them up on the internet and was intrigued by all the flavours of tobacco that you could get for them. Peach, pear, cherry and all that. I never did get a Hookah to try them out, but now I have all the advantages of my flavoured juice without the downside of the tobacco. A sort of miniture E-Hookah.
I am still buying samples of different flavours, not so much searching for "the perfect Vape" but more, searching for the perfect flavour, "for me". However, consistency of flavour, tends to be a bit hit and miss, even with manufactured flavours.

I started vaping in order to quit smoking (despite all the warnings that it's not a smoking cessation tool. I thought I'd be different) did very minimal research online and as I didn't want to continue vaping went for a cheap VIP cigarette, believed all the bumph about a cartomiser lasting for60 (or was it 80) fags where as most only did 20-40 and ordered a kit, can't remember if I only got 1 battery or 2 but during that time got totally pissed off with short battery life, so read a little more and went for a jacvapour fag with a PCC and even better refillable cartomisers. Then started on morphine and when I couldn't sleep did more research and got obsessed with reading forums and amazed at all the different things you could do. Liked this forum once so one day i took the plunge and decided to join. At this time I was humming and harring about whether I wanted to stop. Put up a post asking what I could try with my innokin only to find out I was limited because the thread was wrong (jacvapours threads are all 801) was suggested I buy a riva kit but was totally anti this at first as it had no pcc with it and I well remembered the frustration of my vip days so wanted a pcc not realising of course how superior a battery it was...decided as it came with two batteries I'd give it a go as I was mainly at home I could have one on charge for when my current one died in a couple of hours, I can be a heavy vaper and surely no battery can take that for long. But I'd keep my innokin charged for when I went out so I'd not be caught short! Got it very quickly thanks to vape escape and was AMAZED at the size of it, I'd never dare use it in public thank goodness I'd kept my innokin...filled one of the clearos up with my favourite juice, and the cartomisers up with some different flavours I'd also ordered and started to try them. The cartomisers which were all I knew until then in NO WAY stood up to the clearo, and omg how much vapour it produced.
A couple of weeks later I gave my innokin and all it's cartomisers away for free on here and I haven't looked back. NOw have an ego battery as well, 10 V3's each filled with different flavour, 2 vivi nova's which I plan to get more of, a whole host of juices including a new order from FOTT I havent opened yet as they arrived today while I was in hospital, and plan to continue to grow my collection.
Maybe one day I'll try a mod, maybe even a provari, and a rebuildable atty. My next purchase (or certainly one of my next few) will be an ego t.
Do I vape differently to smoking?yes I do. Smoking for me was a habit I didn't always enjoy, especially when I had to go out in the wet as we rent our house. Vaping is very much a hobby. I love reading and talking about it. I love trying out new things. Going to the shop for a pack of 20 was a chore, ordering and receiving vape mail is exciting. I'd panic if I was low on fags and had no money to buy more, I'd count out coppers, beg steal and borrow. I have enough vaping stuff to be able to treat myself to more when I can afford too but not worry if I can't. I can vape indoors without needing to go out, brilliant when I've been too poorly to get out of bed. My hair and my clothes no longer stink. I was CONSTANTLY losing my lighter or my fags, I always know exactly where all my vape gear is.
Do I still plan on giving up? NOt on your nelly although once I'm well enough I plan to make a concerted effort to get to less than 5mg nic, preferably 0%.
I also plan on mixing my own, and toy with the idea of opening a vape shop as there's a succinct lack of them in suffolk (pipedream atm as I have no money and nowhere near enough knowledge)
DId that answer your question or have I gone COMPLETELY off track???

I thought the same as you Ratfinkz when I first started............. I actually thought that it was a smoking cessation device :-[ but I was soon put right on that I find that vaping has all the benefits of smoking......... but in a healther way! When I first started out I had a mini e-cig and veyr quickly realised that it wasnt suitable for my vaping needs, so I got a riva and was happy with that for a few months, but I'm one of those that is always looking for perfection.............. I've finally found that perfection, its cost me a lot but I look at it this way, I'd spend a lot more money on nasties than I do on my vaping Brilliant post and food for thought

If we have strayed off track, then we need to go off track, afterall, it is because of the "off track" attitude of our government, subsidised by the tobacco industry, that is keeping smokers in this country in the dark about this alternative that they have to their chosen nicotine fuel.
Ratfinkz's letter reminded me that many of my friends who are not in the best of health and who would improve their chances greatly if they only knew about all the benefits they would gain by swopping their stinkies for vaping. But because e-cigs are not advertised on TV or in the press, not talked about on TV, not openly for sale in cigarette retailers and only available on the Internet, then it must be bad for you, or at the very least, a very dubious thing to get involved with.
We are the lucky few who will not only reap the health benefits, but also the financial ones. But I wonder how many more people will have to suffer the consiquences of continuing to smoke before the government put the health of its people before the financial gains of the Tax Office and the Tobacco Industry's Profits and start to openly support the aims of the vaping community.
