Remove the o-ring and place the ceramic in its housing into a pan of boiling water and let it boil for a few mins. Let it cool naturally before you rinse it in cold water and use a cotton bud to scrub the ceramic insides. Don't put a hot ceramic into cold water as the shock will cause it to crack. It sounds like the problem is the ceramic. Cheers Blakey, I will give that a go in a bit to see if it help. I even resorted to my Vivi Nova today

I would've advised putting the ceramic to a flame and burning away the impurities but you mentioned that your ceramic could be cracked so its best not disturbed.

Cheers Thank you for this - I used it in tonight's show You're very welcome, glad I could be of use, I suppose the best way is to buy a dedicated set of crimping pliers as used in jewellery making, but as Im a tight wad and im not gonna be wearing it round my neck, leatherman pliers will suffice.

My crimping beads arrived yesterday, crimping pliers still on route so I had a go using a small pair of pliers I had here - result = superb once I made the connections I held it under a lighter flame for a couple of seconds and melted the the bead to create a soldered connection, very strong very small and very going to be using these from now on Nice recommendation skwoddy.

Glad I did.
