Just started reading lots about e-cigs today and want to try them - not yet ready to give up smoking properly yet, but need advice where I could start, and what I've read so far totally confuses me.
As some background, I have been smoking for 30 years, averaging 20-30 a day, brand of choice these days are Vogue which are very skim with white tips. Not sure I care if the e-cig looks like a real cig or not.
So if someone could recommend a decent e-cig to start and whatever necessaries I would need, would be much appreciated. I guess my mind is expecting a e-cig that is as close to a real cig as possible.
Thanks.

Hello & welcome Katie If you don't care that an e-cig looks like a real cig, then you really would do better to go for an ego/Riva sized e-cig. The one Andym linked to is a good price & a good e-cig. However, it only comes with the one battery so you will have nothing to use while you have that battery on charge. This kit comes with 2 batteries (though not as long lasting between recharges as the one Andy linked to. but it is a very good price - AAEC' for 12.5% OFF www.exhalecigarette.co.uk/product-p/ece5sk.htm

Thanks. Welcome. Forum first, money-spending second......very wise. As someone who has owned all the types (not all the brands) basic e-cig systems, I can honestly say that the look-alike ciggies are mostly a very poor idea...not to mention over-priced I was able to quit (finally!?) using a "mini" cig. In my mind, a mini and a look-alike are not always the same thing. A proper mini will last a reasonable amount of time, have the correct fittings to use all the standard kit (atomisers, cartomisers etc.) and, if you get the right nicotine strength, allow/enable you to stop smoking completely without cravings. To give you an idea of a "proper' mini e-cig, I can recommend www.jacvapour.com/PCC_kits-Excel_-_Starter_Kit.htmlThis is a good product. It's a bit more expensive than some, but a genuine e-cig. However, it's not compatible with a lot of the equipment currently on sale. However, as they sell liquid and cartos at the going rate, they get the thumbs up. This kit got me off the cheap ones and the real tobacco no trouble. Alternatively you could get a 2 battery "510" kit from VapeEscape Cloud9 vaping or many others.... However, the small batteries DO need regular re-charging. A PCC can take care of this, but a lot of "kits" don't have them, so you'll need to carry two and maybe even have charging available (mains or usb). If you want to avoid re-charging often, then you'll need a bigger battery(s). Personally, I like the RIVA from VapeEscape, but as I use a mini e-cig during the day, these hardly ever see the charger! There's lots to learn, but you've come to the right place. Most people will recommend an ego-type-510 system, and they're not wrong. After that, the world is your oyster...... Please ask anything. Good luck

Hi Katie and welcome to the site, I have been vaping for 3 weeks and my first question on the forum was pretty much the same as yours, I eventually after about a week of looking all the different kits got myself this one www.exhalecigarette.co.uk/product-p/ece5sk.htm and also a you ideally need a mains charger www.exhalecigarette.co.uk/product-p/muca.htm, I do find that I feel a bit self concious with this e-cig when I am out so I use this battery for meals and the pub etc www.vapeescape.co.uk/mini-ego-batteries-%28400mah%29~403petc then all you need is some e-liquids (the ego c kit comes with 10ml of e-liquid free) I smoked about the same amount as you did and I currently use about 15ml e-juice a week, but everyone is different and I think between 2-4ml a day is the average, good luck with your vaping

Thank you all for the welcome, advice and reccomendations Will take some time asap to read in detail and look at the websites to make a choice, I just need a few more hours in my day In the meantime if anybody can comment about Sky Cig, would be most welcome as saw a video for it earlier with a UK reviewer and looks possibly interesting Thanks again. But as a starting point I picked up a E-Lite rechargeable e-cig in Morrison's for £6.99 and am giving it a go as a trial until I decide which route to go and where to invest my "real cigarette money"

Hi Katie I don't know about sky cigs but I started on a look a like and really wished I'd done forum first like you are. I really wish I'd gone straight to the ego I have now and not paid out the £30 I did on the look a like. Unless you really need a look a like I'd go with an ego/riva starter kit.

Katie, the Sky e-cig is ok for a very light smoker, same with the e-lite. Both will be very short on battery life between recharging. The e-lite you have bought for £6.99 is way cheaper than what they usually sell them for. However, the e-lite replacement cartomisers (tips) are very expensive & unfortunately as they have a non standard thread, can't be bought cheaper elsewhere You can refill them with e-liquid though. As a 20-30 a day smoker, I doubt any ciggie lookalike will cut it for you.
