My other half was initially very supportive of me vaping. She seems ok with me vaping indoors as long as it doesn't waft over her.
On Saturday she saw me pulling up in the car and then having a little vape before getting out. When I got indoors she told me not to vape in the car as it smells horrible. I said it's no worse than having an air freshener in the car but she is adament it stinks.
Last week when staying with her parents she asked me if I'd been vaping in the loo as she went in after me and could smell it. I said yes and she went off about it saying I shouldn't do it at all there.
Thing is I vape in the car every day when she's not tehr and she's never said anything. I've also vaped in her parents' house everywhere when nobody else has been around and again, never noticed. Finally surely the smell of some honey flavcoured vapour is much more preferable to what other smells get left in bathrooms!
Anyone else have paranoid OTT comments about vaping? I love her to bits but sure she's just finding things to pick at!

I'd be seriously annoyed if I were you.
you've packed in smoking, which smells far worse, not to mention more detrimental to your (and hers) health. If this were me, i'm afraid I'd dig my heels in and do it where I liked, when I liked it and tell her to lump it- sorry.

Are you sure she can smell it and isn't just snapping at you or something? Because any smell from it usually disappears very quickly. I can vape sitting next to my dad and he's never said he could smell it. Except once when I was burning in a clearo and he asked if that was vanilla. I don't understand this even if it does smell. I don't know about you guys, but I spray the house with a little air freshner when I'm going out somewhere. I also use it in the loo.

I have a smoking friend, who I allow to smoke in my home/car etc, who insisted that my caramel juice stank horribly when I vaped in her car! My response was to stop, but tell her that the smell of my caramel wouldn't cling to her in the way that her cigarette smoke would cling to me. I know that odour preference is subjective but any smell left from vaping is so transient.
Your wife isn't suddenly hyper-sensitive to smells for some reason, is she?

I would say it's time for a sit talk with your OH to find out what the problem is. There sounds like there is definitely more going on here then any problems with smell. Does she fully understand what the difference is between vaping & smoking is. I think you used exactly the right word in your title "perception". Did she maybe think that vaping would be a short term thing that you would give up once you'd managed to quit the ciggies. Is she maybe getting annoyed because your still spending money on the vaping, when after quitting the cigs you shouldn't be spending anything? or maybe just the time your spending on it re forums & online shopping. Is she concerned that there are still negative health implications from vaping, passive vaping etc, cos she doesn't really understand. Sorry if this seems like a list of question but I'm trying to throw everything in here. I hope this doesn't sound patronising to your OH, but sometimes partners can stop listening properly, & I can say this because I'm probably one of the worst offenders . Sometimes when my OH is rattling on about all things petrol & mechanical I have been known to zone out occasionally then generally let him get on with it. So maybe this has been the case when you've been explaining about vaping, only now she's wondering why you are still vaping. Again apologies it you find this in any way insulting to your OH. If you go back through the forum there are several threads from members about negative comments they've received about vaping, & it was only the other day that gothiclord posted about grief he was receiving from his inlaws. I think the only way to resolve this is to sit down in a nice relaxed none confrontational way & have a chat. Let her know that for you vaping has been a godsend & without it you'd probably still be on the cigs, which presumably neither of you want, & neither do you want the stress of trying to give up the conventional way & failing. Anyhow just my TPW, but I hope you get to the bottom of it. The nice thing about making the transition to vaping is that it's relatively stress free & you don't need to get broadsided from a completely different direction. Good luck Edit : just to say if this were me I would probably go the same route as Boo, but occasionally talking to each other can also work

Thanks guys, not gonna bother saying anything, just deny I'm vamping in the car or at her folks' as like you say she can't tell really and not worth the argument. Was more interested in what other experiences people have had with people complaining about it.

Sorry you are having anti vaping issues toby, maybe she is just being a little hormoney On the very rare occasions that just about everything my OH does makes me savage I just wish he would ignore me, I do eventually revert back to my normal sweetness and light Pam

Everybody knows the a dog's sense of smell is far more sensitive than a humans.
My two dogs would never come near me while I was smoking a cigarette and they will leave the room if we switch on an air freshener (contrary to what the TV adverts suggest), but when I'm vaping, they are on my lap, perfectly content and usually dozing.
My wife will occasionally ask what flavour I am vaping, more so in the confined space of the car, but she has never made any bad comments about it. Quite the oposite being pleased that I have changed over to a safer and less expensive way of getting my nicotine.

Agree with this, my German shepherd has a very sensitive snout, disappears when the deodorant comes out and appears from nowhere when the cheese is silently withdrawn from the fridge, hates fags but no reaction whatsoever with vaping , loves poo though

My dog loves the vape, but my kittens are not at all impressed. On the subject of other people's perceptions - mostly i vape everywhere and get no stick from anyone, just curiosity. But at work I make sure to vape outside because some staff have been mildly peeved by it....probably more to do with them not liking me though, if I'm being honest with myself...

I must have had some e juice on my hand the other day, when I stroked a cat that's local to my works,it was just interested in smelling my hand, didn't persist though as probably wouldn't have been to healthy for him
