Hi, I've been reading some of the forum for a few days now trying to get my head around it all as I really want to stop smoking. I smoke roughly 20/25 rollys per day with menthol tips (I'm not to fussed about the menthol I think it's more I'm sick of the taste of smoking if that makes any sense, everybody looks at me like i'm crazy when i say i smoke but don't like the taste) tried several times to stop and apart from once when I was 18 some 14 years ago :-[ when I just stopped without an issue for a couple of years now I really do struggle even lasting a few hours. I can see there are various options available and the refillable things (I haven't a clue on the terminology) where you pour the liquid in sound like they will be ideal. What would be the ideal starter set up for me? I can see from reading there was a set being recommended but at just over £20 but it's out of stock. So an alternative and some basic information on it would be perfect even if it's just a link so I can read everything for myself. The other issue is there a sooooo many flavours and varieties. I can't even keep up with all the variations I've read about in the last couple of days, they've just amalgamated into a big ball of information in my head I really do what to avoid tobacco flavours but at the same time removing the flavour may lead me to want to smoke (does that make sense) are there any sites that offer a variety of different ones at affordable prices? as it appears by trying so many different varieties I may end up spending a load more money than by smoking which doesn't seem the best idea. Thanks for any advice you can give. Also great site it's kept me up reading into the late hours last night.

Hi from me as well M4 That kit that Chrissy has linked to is great value! You may need to spend a bit and experiment but once you've found what works for you costs can come down dramatically, certainly cheaper than smoking coffin nails. If you want to learn to mix your own liquids and get a rebuildable atomiser then you could probably vape for around £5 a week. I too cannot stand the taste of fags even when I smoked them, the good thing is there are lots of alternative flavours available.

Thanks for the responses and that was quick I'm still here, just reading through the links. With the liquids what would be the recommended nicotine levels to start with? Sorry edit: also how long do these liquids last on average?. The liquids linked to above is in 5ml. Obviously I'm guessing one you find the ones you like it's cheaper to buy bigger bottles I'm not sure about mixing my own. The rest seems really simple but that I would really have to understand a lot more and I don't know what an atomizer is but I'll read up on those thanks.

A second for 24mg here as well if you're on 25 roll ups.

Hi Matt, I'm pretty new to all this too so probably not the most informed as to what kit you would be best starting out with. That said, I was given a Riva starter kit including a couple of batteries, some cartomisers and a clearomiser for my birthday a few weeks ago (thanks dad!) and have found it great - enough to get me off the cigs (last smoke 5 and a half days ago and counting). Regarding flavours, a lot of vendors sell small 5ml bottles which aren't too pricey and will give you a chance to have a feel around for the sort of flavours you'll enjoy. I started off with a Pick 'n' Mix from VapeEscape ( www.vapeescape.co.uk/search.asp?types=Grizwald%27s+Gourmet+Range+%3E+Pick+%27n%27+Mix), getting a range of different types of flavours, eg: tobacco, fruity, desserty, minty, etc. I'm sure I've seen similar packages elsewhere. Admittedly, I found there's a bit of trial and error involved and have bought some juices that I probabaly won't ever finish but over the past couple of weeks I've definitely narrowed it down somewhat and feel much more confident about choosing juices. If you're on a budget and find you have a number of juices that you don't like you could always ask around and see if anyone is up for some swapping. In the long term though, I'm sure that unless you spend too much time on the forums and get kit-envy, it's still a money saver. Good luck with your first steps into vaping - hope you enjoy it as much as I and many other people here do! Edit: typo, and crikey - left my pc for a bit while answering and there's a page full of responses!

Hi m4tt.
I quit rollies; it still surprises me how easy it's been, but I did spend a few months cutting down (marginally) with the help (or not) of a cheap e-cig.
In terms of tobacco e-liquid, I can take it or leave it. Sometimes, when I get a "more-ish" liquid and start vaping too much, I make up a tobacco cart and just vape on it to stop the cravings.
Some liquids are very addictive in that regard.
I'd suggest getting a few small bottles (once you've found a good kit) of simple things like tobacco, vanilla, a fruit (I like lemon or banana), a sweet (caramel) and perhaps a coffee?
The single most disappointing liquid I have is a general "fruit" liquid by hangseng....
There are a number of retailers doing tester selections. The only advice I would offer is don't do what I did and order, say, a tobacco and a caramel then select a caramel tobacco too. Most "mixed up" flavours are easy enough to do yourself.
I gave up the real fags on a mix of vanilla and virginia. I can't even cope with the smell of that now.

Oh, and b.t.w. I got my first atomiser today and shan't be using it for anything other than trying out liquids. I loaded up a cart with it and took it in the car on a LONG errand. It was dry in under 50 puffs. That's already decided in my mind that a 3 piece arrangement isn't for me. (I wish someone had told me that cart ridges only hold half as much as cart omisers ) Buy a kit with either cartomisers or a "tank/clearomiser".

Hi M4tt and welcome! I've just started vaping (6 weeks ago!) and wish i had found this forum before I committed to buying as I would have saved some cash! The eXhale deal is a great one www.exhalecigarette.co.uk/eXhale-CE5-Starter-Kit-p/ece5sk.htm and with a few extras you will be set up for the foreseeable future. The extras - a couple more beefy batteries like these www.vapeescape.co.uk/joyetech-ego-c-1000mah-upgrade-battery~316 and a spare charger would be a good investment, and don't forget plenty of juice! I was initially thinking that I could stay off the rollies during the day and just smoke evenings. It was almost embarrassingly easy to vape instead of smoke - I've only had two roll-ups in 6 weeks, and honestly they have tasted foul. It was more to satisfy myself that I've made the right decision than a desire to smoke tobacco. Go for it - you won't be disappointed and you will save a load of money once you have the initial outlay for the kit and spares that you need. You will get your taste and smell back, you won't stink of fags oaa the time, and if you were experiencing a tightness of the chest, that will quickly go too. Lungfuls of fresh air, and no damage to yourself or the ones around you - it's a win-win situation!! Keep us posted with your progress, and the very best of luck (although you won't need it!) Andy
