I dropped my tin mod yesterday. It got a little bent, but survived, which my confidence didn't, cos I don't have a good backup for it.
So I'm looking for a cheap vv device which will work with an 18650 unprotected battery with nipple. I think one rather than two, cos batteries can also get destroyed.
People selling the lavatube (aka thundervolt?) say that the extra 2mm you get with the nipple makes the battery too long to fit. Is that true? Can I file something down?
Anyone know of anything else, or should I just bite the bullet and buy a shorter 18650 (which would work OK in my tin mod & charger)?

Your battery probably would fit, you just may not be able to screw the end cap all the way in

It's not the nipple that increases the length by much..It's mainly protection circuitry and capacity..
A flat topped 18650 and a button topped one of the same capacity and the same company will differ by about 0.7 mm. The LT will take both efest V1 (flat) & V2 (button) 18650 IMR.

Doesn't that thunderbolt kit come with batteries and a charger then if you want to use longer batteries in it too, you still can, but like karma said you may not be able to screw the cap on fully, it's not a problem at all, only aesthetically, and that can be solved with a cheap black rubber O ring

Thanks for the info everybody.
Maybe I should get another tin mod - I certainly like the one I've got - but I'm thinking a single 18650 this time - better backup. Also I kind of like a bit of variety. I looked for a comparable tube mod, but didn't find one.
The only place I can see that sells a thunderbolt is 2smoke, pricing it at 31 Euros + 11 Euros shipping. Not a bad deal with the batteries & charger, but since I don't need them I was looking at UK Eliquid Lavatube - £25-99 less 10% plus £1-99 post - but they don't say what version it is. I think I need at least version 2?

Does it have to be VV if it's just a backup device giles? there are lots of cheap 18650 tubes, without variable voltage, that could be used as backup. You could even consider that new VV tube mod that's making it's way over here... the Zamo or whatever people are calling it... was available for 29.99 on a UK site the other day, sold out pretty quickly though, might be worth the wait.

Giles, the uk eliquid LT looks ok to me. Looks like the original black one, it'll not be able to tell you atomiser resdtance, but I've found mine to be a good work horse

Thanks for that everybody.
I don't think I want to go for long without vv now. I got home-made juices, home-wired heads, don't all work without a bit of extra power.
I'm not too worried about it telling me the resistance - got myself a multimeter a couple of weeks back.
I don't think I'll wait for Zainy. MojoRepublic is nearly as cheap - slightly better discount than UK eliquid.

Got my my Lavatube, and of course karma is quite right - there's a long thread on the bottom cap, so it holds with plenty to spare, just a 2mm gap because it doesn't screw right up. And I'm sure I bought some assorted O rings once. Just have to work out where I might have put them ???

If you're making your own heads, why not make lower resistance and not worry about vv? Alternatively, if you're not sure about the LT but definitely want vv, what about a Twist? Bit bloody late now.

Bit bloody late now. lol Maybe one day I'll be good enough at it to coil resistances to a specific level to match a juice. Right now, the resistance is whatever it turns out to be, and I adjust the volts to match. I thought of a twist, but I've got 2250mAh 18650 batteries which last forever between charges; and if you don't have to buy batteries and charger the twist isn't much cheaper.

I'm still in the "that'll be about right" ohm boat with you. I'd also have got the LT, but I got the impression you weren't sure about it from your earlier posts. I reckon you've made the right choice, I'd have got the LT as well.
